Well considering all the problem the hurricane 550 have had it still is a VERY popular model.
is this because we guys have saved gaui's ass by modding and rewrite some of the manual?
just curios though..........

I think for a new model it has done really well. the problems have really been minor. and Acctually i think this was designed for more of a entry class, but the guys here have really shown what it can do with some minor mods. I think it is just great that Gaui has listened and made the changes needed to turn this into a great heli!

I just wish that it hadn't taken me 6 months to realise that "bigger is better" and that I'd bought one back in February rather than August.
We do seem to be what we call in the IT industry "beta testers" at times, however it might be that between the design team and the production engineers someone (bean counter ?) decided to use shorter link rods and too-short self tappers. The issues seem more like production rather than design flaws and hence are easily worked-around. I still love the way that mine flies and looks.
Cheers,
Mike.

That was the reason why I monitored the forums, watched other pilots at the local field fly it, observed the steps they had to take to get their machines flying properly and held back my purchase until most the bug had been worked out. I ordered the kit that works for most the pilots I know at my local flying field. Mine does not give any problem so far after almost 50 flights. I really like this helicopter :)
I also like the way ReadyHeli promote the Hurricane.

Looking back to the first Trex helicopters, they where hardly as joyfull as a V2 to fly. I think the future looks very very brigth for Gaui, and I look forward to following them progress in this craft. Really thinking about a 200 now, to fly indoor, or hang around my neck for that extra bling bling fealing :)

short of searching for "gaui problems", what were the production issues? i'd like to know what to watch out for during my build, which i still haven't started yet.

Watch Finless's 550 build videos and they will tell you all that you need to know - have a look here http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=31211
The ones that struck me particularly were that some of the link rods don't have as many threads screwed into the link as some would like - by using the longer Raptor links you can get around this. The other one that I particularly wanted to rresolve is that some of the balls are held in by self-tapper screws that again don't have as many threads holding them in as they should - I replaced all of these will hex-head set screws

I agree with Mike...I can't believe that any knowledgable heli flyer would have approved the finished design or they certainly didn't fly hard 3D with heli they put into production.....how long would it have lasted before half the balls fell off and/or the elevator crank broke. "bean counters rule the world"....but if it wasn't for companies like Gaui that produce a decent product at a great price...I would still be flying my ECO8 becuase I certainly could not afford a $600 or better Rex.
I only have a flew flights on mine and several front yard hovers but I feel like I won the lottery...
Thanks to Finless and everyone that posted the problems, I was able to order the few small upgrades that make this a solid flyer.
I have no doubts that with the knowledge base on this forum there isn't any problems that can't be solved or worked around.
i think this heli can only get better from here as the aftermarket jumps on the bandwagon to produce replacement parts and the dealers carry more items.
I would love to know how many of these helis have been sold and are flying...
