View Full Version : Canon A640
I know this thread will be moved fairly quickly, but figured I would post here first anyways.
My A640 is FUBAR after an "unscheduled" landing. Looking to pick up one 2nd hand.

I dont think anyone will move it, noones that mean
Have you seen the A570 IS? Its a cheaper camera, but is almost as good as the A640s.
Thanks for the input, but I do not think A640 lense converter I use will fit the A570, and kind of want to stick with the 10.1 Megapixels opposed to moving down to the A570's 7.1. Found one site that lists the A640 on sale for $233.65. Will hold out a bit and see if I get a response on posted ads before purchasing new.

Nope...doesn't count. Got one of those already! ;-)

I have a 640 that also sme down too hard. It works but the USB port broke free from the PC board and since the wires inside are SO small there was no way to solder it back. I converted it to trigger with a simple switch using a servo connector and a servo driven microswitch.
Now if I can just crash my new G9 I can get a DSLR....
A640 Make offer.

Razor, have you used the 570 IS? I have one and couldn't get my rex smooth enought for the stabilizer to handle it. Pics were worse than my 550. I now have a 640 and way better pics. Also the 640 is much better with low light pics. Maybe my rex's aren't running smooth enough, Tail fin doesn't vibrate but sometimes I get a bit of a wobble on the Camera mount skids. Camera mount is rubber with oil shocks to dampen movement. With the 640 on rapid shoot I rarely get a blurry picture, yet with the 570 is I never get a clear one.
Well, I found a website (www.avalongadgets.com) that advertises the A640 for $233.65. Not too shabby a price. Will have to check them out before ordering.
Disregard my last. Sounds like a rip-off company:

Al, could a Canon Service Center not have been able to solder the USB Port to the board? I use a BLIP trigger and do not think I could get around not having the USB port.

You've probably already checked ebay, I know they usually have a bunch of refurbs available. I picked up a second A640 a couple weeks ago off ebay (ad stated it was new, and it appears to be) for $269. It checks out fine. The refurbs are a little cheaper I believe.
Thanks Lakespinner2. I have not checked Ebay yet, but will if need be. 269 is a pretty good price.
