So.. Is the Z-power Z30 motor the way to go for this bird?
My 550 is on the way and I want to be flying before 2008. I hear that the Gaui motors aren't that great so is this my best choice?
Thank you

I just finished setting up my heli and am running the H/24/11H available through ReadyHeli. I'm not sure how it compares to the Z30, but it's simple a rocket on mine. I'm running the stock gearing with a 15T pinion and measured my HS at 3000RPM at 100% throttle!!! I only got a few flights in yesterday, but after running 3:30 of noob 3D I put about 2000 mah in my FP 3700 Evo25's. With the current set up, I should get about 5 minutes of simply insane power.
I ordered a 14T pinion today, and eventually plan to run in governor mode around 2400 HS. Hopefully that will run my flight times out to 6 or 7 minutes without giving up too much performance.
I'm tempted to keep it as is, but am a bit leery running such a high HS?
At any rate, good luck. I'm sure you'll love it once you have it built!

I'm building mine now and am going to go 10S A-123 with a Scorpion 3032-10 (~800KV/1200W) motor. It's a bit nose-heavy but I think if I mount the tail servo on the boom I'll get my CG fixed-up. I'm looking to run around 2000RPM and getting 8-10mins/pack for mostly basic stuff (hovering, FFF, loops, rolls, flips, etc.) If you go the HV route you'll also need to make sure your power system can handle it. I'm using a CC HV-45 and Dimension VHVBEC as the voltatge is a bit too high for the Gaui stuff...

"HS at 3000 RPM at 100% throttle!!!" :noteworthy
Holy...H550.. No tail explosion?
I plan on using my TP 2200 3S's that I have for my Trex450 so I'm not sure if I'm gonna get much Flight time out of that scorpion.. I know if I get the Gaui stock or the Z20, I'm gonna wanna upgrade after I really learn to put the stick to the plastic.. There are so many options that it's mind blowing.. :bomb:

With those 2200 batts... really the best motor is the Z20 980kv for you... especially if you want some flight times that are over 5 min.
What amperage ESC are you getting? Banging on the Z30 is going to pull more than 50a - and that is also why I think you will not be happy with 2200s.

I haven't decided on an esc yet because I wasn't sure what motor I was going to get.. I think I narrowed it down to the Z20. I can use a 50 amp-er with that motor and I think it'll be ok.. Thanks for the info..

If you want - get a 75a ESC - then you could use it on both. You can always sell the Z20 (and probally get a pretty good price for it) when you decide you want something like a Z30 & some bigger batteries.
