I think your ok there Simon. That just looks like a gel coat thing, not structural damage.

Cheers

All I need now is lipos  whats the recommended cells for a stock setup ? TP or Tanic, 3p or 4p ? I would like at least 10 mins if possible.

4P,,, I use TP but it's your call, Tanics are reported to be good to but I have not tried them :glasses:

Ion is ready :glasses: well nearly picked up my lipo's but I'm stuck on the pitch it's all set up but I can't fine tune my pitch in my radio (9C) :( I can adjust the pitch travel with SWR no problem but in th pitch curves moving them up or down, the servo's do nothing just don't get it. I have no mixes turned on all idle up's are have INH switched off, checked my 3dmp settings and they are the same and pitch curves work fine, any ideas, probably something really stupid I've missed ?

Cheers

Ok sorted the pitch problem, not sure what ot was but it's all ok now :D

In the manual it gives you the throttle/pitch curves for Norm, idle up etc. What sort of throttle curve should I have for Norm if I'm hovering at 3/4 ? I would like to say set norm pitch curve to -5 0 +10 and idle up 1+2 too -10 0 +10 but stuck on the Norm throttle curve, any ideas ? as I normally use the gov mode on my other e-helis, cheating but alot easier

How much negative pitch for auto's using 690's ?

Hi Simon,

Well I don’t fly at all in normal; my normal curve goes up to half stick and 80% then a straight line from half to full at 80%. I hover in idle 1 with a straight line TH curve at 80%, in idle one you can set any pitch curve you want. All my pitch curves in normal idle 1 & 2 are -10 to +10 so I don’t know what you should do for autos, maybe -6. Idle 2 is TH curve of 100-85-100. I always boot up the model (RX) in hold, carry it to the flight line give the head a spin by hand then put the TX in idle 1 or 2 and release hold, this ensures a soft start every time (takes 20 to 23 seconds to come to full speed) I never start in normal because it can bypass the soft start very easily, basically I never use normal.

Couple of questions, where can I mount my battery monitor looked all over can't find a good spot which is visable with canopy on ?

and my tail pushrod rubs slightly on the open gearbox (plastic casing bit) ? i'm using the middle hole on part #0445 as per the instrucions any suggestions.

Thanks

Tried to sppol up the Ion today without blades as per the manual, when i plugged the main packs in I got 1 beep then paused then it beeped 5 times ? thought it was only supposed to beep once, pause then beep 4 times ? Did go any further with it thought i would ask here first.

Thanks

hey , well did you program the esc ? if its a MA kit with motor and esc , then its set for you , 77-0 and the gray motor is a MA sign of a MA product , plug and play . give it some throttle , if you have the blades off then you should see a softstart , just go to around 1/2 throttle and should take 10 seconds

Hi,

I haven't programmed anything on the esc it is the 77-0 which came in the kit. Just was a bit unsure as it said 4 beeps in the MA manual, I will go try spooling it up now.

Spooled it without the blades, thought thats noisy not alot turning oh yeah reverse the motor wires  just waiting for lipo's to charge then it's for real :WOW

I wasn't sure if the soft start was programmed, never had a Hacker ESC before so I'm only comparing it to my Kontrnic, which is very slow start up ?

yeh , its got quite a whine to it huh? thats why Chris used the hacker because of the sound , and also the power that it produced ,
make sure when you go through the crank up mode that if something isnt right and you back off throttle , let the motor come to a complete stop , if not , when you give just a tad throttle she will go wide open , stripping gears , what I do is unplug and then plug back up , I ramp up useing mode 1 , plug up in normal then just hit the switch
have fun ,

Tony

Had first flight today, complete success :D very stable. I had a bit of white dust over the inside of my lipo's, must of been coming from the gear which runs onto the motor pinion ? I have set all my meshing using a piece of paper between them so maybe it just where it's new and needs bedding in ?

hey , plain paper might be to loose , I use a cigarette , empty out the tobaco and stick it in there .
glad you had a great first flight ,

Congratulations!!! And the white dust is normal, I don’t use any thing to help set the gears, just put them against each other at there highest spot and your good to go

Russ , that works with the micro helis , but I dont think you will find a high spot on the ion gear

You don’t have to tell me what I will find with Min Air gears, there gears are the best but I haven’t found a perfect one yet and I have had several of the 55 tooth lay shaft gears that where well off center, on the edge of acceptability but they worked. They probably have the lay shaft gears trued up better now that I’m not using them any more.

Getting gears centered to zero run out is darn near impossible, there’s are better then most but if you look for it you will find it in most every gear they make.

I did find a high spot in my new 55t gear, so I did my mesh spacing there with a piece of paper. It's not bad at all, continuous 3D power  and the gears look great!

I also find some white "powder" on my right hand battery after flying. I treat is as something normal since the gear does eventually wear out. My Logo20 does the same thing.

if you have the blades off then you should see a softstart , just go to around 1/2 throttle and should take 10 seconds
Mine definatly spools up quicker than than 10seconds, how to program or check to see if it's soft start mode, the Hacker manual dosn't mention it ?

I have been flying it with the pitch and throttle curves as in the manual, but I would like to set up my normal cuve as -6 0 +10/11 the same for Hold and idle up 1+2 -11/10 0 +10/11 but what sort of throttle curve do I need for Normal ?

Is +/- 11 to much for the Ion ?

Thanks

Simon.
