Its time to go south for the winter so I'm heading to :bananaFlorida to Ready-Heli country but I worried :dontknowhow I was going to get my Hurri 550 on the plane. My Trex is easy but how about the larger Hurri.
No problem, all I had to do was remove the boom, tail case, landing gear and blades. The entire heli frame with all electronics stayed together. You can't see but the boom in in the front of the case below the head covered with foam. I have room for a bag of parts in the center where the TX normally would go. My DX 7 Tx is in my Trex case. My lipos will be shipped along with my thong and I will be ready to go, Oh yea I'll bring my wife. Here are some pics of the case. I'm looking forward to meeting John and his crew at Ready-Heli as they have been super to work with.

Very tidy Oppie.
At the risk of crashing your thread off-topic - has anyone found a case / bag that will hold teh 550 intact ??

This one should work!

Not exactly a carry on though. On the other hand it is probably big enough for the heli, radio, batteries and all other tools you would need on a trip.

Nice case but VERY borderline for air transportation as the EMPTY weight (with foam) is approaching what a lot of airlines will accept for a single piece of checked baggage.

They will accept it up to 70 pounds, but may charge you extra. Some will even go as high as 100 pounds, but at a price. :)

Depends on where you are travelling FROM and (to some extent) the airline.
(e.g.) United Airlines have a limit of 50 pounds per checked bag, maximum 2 bags, unless you are travelling Business / First or are an upper tier frequent flyer member (Gold card or above).
British Airways are imposing a 51 pound limit as of next November to comply with UK health and safety requirements.
If you exceed those limits then they will ding you for $50 or so per bag....you absolutely cannot exceed 70 pounds travelling within Europe AFAIK because of health and safety.
Whatever, my point is that the case referred to is a lovely bit of kit but probably too heavy to be practical for transporting the 550 by air.

Exactly, 50 pounds is the max WITHOUT PAYING EXTRA.
I can't remember off the top of my head, but a couple of airlines will take up to 100 pounds for a charge. I can even picture their airport signs in my head, they list the baggage charges for various weights.
It used to be (not that long ago) that as long as you were traveling to/from the US you had a 70 pound per bag no charge limit, but they have gotten away from that. And outside the US or to/from the US, some of the excess baggage charges can be OUTRAGEOUS. I paid about $400 for a total of about 100 pounds (in two bags) on Air France from Nouakchott to Lome, through Paris, flying Business Class and as a Sky Team Elite Plus (Platinum) level frequent flyer. Luckily work picked that up.
I am actually Platinum in two different programs. I fly a bit. :)

LOL, I keep seeing this post, and think it reads, "My Hurri PICKED up a Trex travel case".
I think I'll pack up my Trex and pick it up with my Hurri and post here just to get it out of my system. :)
