Well guys I finally got my Hurricane 550 kit today! Everything looks good and Im real excited to start getting everything together. I have one question for you guys. When I took the mainframe out of the box and started looking it over, I noticed that when I turned the head assembly I can feel something binding a little bit in a certain spot. Just wondering if anyone else had this problem and what they did to fix it.

Thanks, Mike

when your turning the head your going against the one way bearing and putting a different strain on the gears....turn the gears the the motor pinion hits and see if you still feel the binding. when turing the main motor gear in the correct direction the head should move and it should be a smooth...if not then you need to investigate further...also....if your swash plate is not level that will induce a little resistance also..

Okay I just tried everything you said and it is still doing it. The binding is between the main gear and the tail gear. Those two gears mesh really tightly together. It feels like there might be a slight imperfection with the main gear only in one spot. Is this something I should be worried about or will it almost wear in?

Try loosening off the screws that hold the frame parts and bearing blocks in place and see if there is any 'give'. You might find it will run smoother if you loosen everything, spin the head a bit and then carefully tighten.

Big momma...
it seems all of us h550 owners that are getting the hurry as a 2nd bird, up from a 450 sized machine (or smaller, blade cp axe cp ect) are calling this thing huge. i can't wait to get a 90 sized heli, because that's going to look gargantuan even compaired to a rex600. but i guess i'm getting way far ahead of myself now, as i can't even hold inverted for more then a few seconds without getting the shakes and having to land. on the sim, i'm fine though. one question, not to hijack the thread or anything but is it a stupid idea to have all of my helis with the same canopy scheme? axe cp, mx450, h550, and soon to be raptor 90?

I "always" believe you should go with what you can see , real good.

A beautiful paint job you can't distinguish up from down isn't worth a flip.

If you found one you like, and can see it clearly,,,it may even help having the same, as you wil get real used to knowing the attitude of the heli.

One thing I have started doing is painting black stripes on the tops of my blades, when in a turn I can easliy tell if the heli is tipped toward me or away from me by if the black is visible.

Do what you like.....it will look like a "mini fleet" with all the same.
