I am very confused by all this LiPo stuff. I use to race 1/10 on and off road cars and it seemed batteries and chargers were pretty easy to figure out. I also don't recall dropping battery packs 3 feet and them catching fire or exploding.

I just purchased a used Trex off ebay and need help charging the battery. The charger is a DuraTrax Ice with ElectriFly Equinox balancer. The Battery is an Align High-Power Li-Polymer Battery 20C 11.1V 2100mAh. I don't have the temp probe for the charger so the settings for the charger I have entered all the data aside from the charge rate, which is what I am looking for. I think I read somewhere it should be 2.1amp because the battery is 2100mAh but again don't want a fire because I think I remember reading something. Do I always use the Equinox? The guy at the LHS said only use it once every 40 charges if at all (he said he has never used one on his pack which is a year old)

make sure the charger is set to lipo and charge the bat at 1c (1c for a 2100mah = 2.1amps). i would always use the balancer. you probably dont need to every time but why risk it it doesnt take any time to hook the bat to the balancer. i would watch the align lipo they are known to puff for no reason.

Also make sure you have the cell count right on the charger.

And I just want to verify that it's 3S correct?

I know not everyone uses the same battery charger so I tell you what my options are

Li-Po 11.1V 2100mAh
Chg current 2.1A
Dchg current 2.0A
Dchg Volt 2.8V/C
cut-off temp 90F
max chg capa 110%

depends on what battery

the align one u mention is 3s or 3cell so yes the charger should be set to 3s

if you charge a 2 cell then it should be set to 2s and so on.

i wouldnt bother with the dchg yet unless you plan to store the pack for awhile. but if you do want to dchg the pack then i would only dichg to 50% and not go below 3V/C i would only charge to 100% dont worry about pack temp as a lipo should not get warm when charging.
