Hi There
Just fitted the short boom conversion kit to my 550 and was wondering what to do with the tail control rod. Is there a shorter one available or do you just shorten the original if so can you re thread these? or is it better to mount the tail servo on the boom like the trex 600. I'm only running two 3s 2250 mAh packs so I'm hoping the heli will be better balance with the short tail as it was tail heavy with the standard setup

I have short boom and servo in frame - works perfactly with the shorter push-rod avaliable from Readyheli http://www.readyheli.com/204194_Tail_Control_Rod_Short_Boom_Gaui_Hurrican_p/204194.htm

i've got the boom mount, and i'm planning on making my own rudder linkage with carbon rod and dubro ball link/end packs. those things are so handy..

Use carbon fiber tube, and either a piece of 2-56 all thread rod (LHS) or a couple of spare link rods. Epoxy them into the tubing, screw on ball links and go for it.

I now also wrap the ends of the tube with strong thread and hit with thin CA, as I have had the ends crack and rods start to pull out, since wrapping I have never had a problem.
just a little extra piece of mind.

I use a piece of heat shrink. I put some epoxy on the outer side of the tube and then heat the shrink.
Or just hit it with a drop of thin CA, after shrinking the heat shrink.

thanks for the info, will make up the carbon rod once things settle down after Christmas. I have cut down my original control and gave the heli its first flight since fitting the short boom. It's definitely less tail heavy and looks more in proportion now. I have 500mm blades on it at the moment but will try the 475mm ones to see what they are like
