It seems as if the timer function on the new DX6i can only be controlled by the throttle cut or the trainer switch, and not the throttle stick?

If that is really the case, don't you see that as a major "flaw"?
I hope I am wrong on this one ...

On my DX7 It's controlled by a rocker button and not the throttle and I don't think it's a super big deal but a nice function to have.

Same company Spectrum = JR = Horizon Hobby

Not exactly.
Spektrum and JR are separate companies, both imported to the US by Horizon.

If it makes you fell better  but the (2) comapnies have a SUPER SUPER SUPER close relationship. I mean look at their... err I mean Spektrums announcements

Well they would make announcements about problems with ANY Tx they support with modules. :)
But considering that Spektrum uses JR radios as their basis and JR uses Spektrum RF units, I would agree with the close relationship. :)

Yeah I would "guess" JR leased the Spektrum technology and or bought the company since the actual radio parts are interchangeable.

I would think if they bought them, they would merge the lines.
But, I think Spektrum bought radios from JR first (DX6 = JR 662, DX7 = JR 7202) then JR licensed the Spektrum stuff.
But a merger/acquisition at some point wouldn't surprise me.
Of course, hard to tell since Horizon handles both, and the US sites point you to Horizon for support.
