Hey guys
My Raptor 50se is flying great, but I am wondering what head speed you are running in normal mode idle up 1 and 2.
I am using the Multi-Gov and am running normal at 1800 idle 1 at 1900 and idle 2 at 2000,
The reason I am asking is that before the Multi-Gov I seemed to have more poop! It was a rocket on climb outs and now it seems much more tame.
I am using an OS Hyper 50 same as before the Multi-Gov. Is this normal because of the Multi-Gov? Or could it be I switched to the Align muffler? Had to lean the Hyper some after putting it on.
Is anything over 2000 not good? While running down the runway full out it just doesn't seem as fast as it should be. I am using carbon blades and 30% nitro fuel. Thanks for any help....

Hi
If you kept your original curves, then just set the Multi-gov speed below 500 to turn it off in any mode.
Maybe you too had high head speeds before.
Head speed 2000 rpm, gear ratio 8.5, gives the OS 50 Hyper its sweet spot at 17 000 rpm

I have the Raptor 50se with a multigov and curtis pipe. The speeds the original poster said are the speeds I use except for idle I have it set as a rev limiter. the one thing I recently found out that I had set wrong on the multigov was the low throtle setting. I had it set at low stick on the transmitter when it should be set at about mid stick. This is so when you finish a maneuver and the head unloads, the RPMs stay up ready for the next maneuver. Yes the RPM's will stay up because it is being governed but the throttle may have moved to idle to bring the RPM's down and has to move that much further when needed again.
edit/ normal 1850 over limit, idle one 1900 fully governed, idle two 2000 fully governed
Hope that made sense.
Also, by switching the muffler the engine will respond totaly different. When I switched from the TT pipe to the curtis I had the same problem till I had the air/fuel set right. Now it is like a bottle rocket on full power clime outs. Also I recently switched to wide core blades and I found the head would bog down. With minor air/fuel adjustments, WOW is all I can say.
I do NOT have the engine tuned right, it is to rich, I know this because I was told the optimum engine temperature is about 210 ferenheit. mine is running around 160. It is running just fine, not spitting, plenty of power so I'm going to leave it there till I can get the aid of an expert who can tune the engine by ear.

vandelescrow makes sence and I am using wide core blades as well. I will continue to tune the engine and will try setting low stick on the Multi-gov to mid stick and see how that works. Don't get me wrong the Helicopter fly's great just not the pop it had before the Multi-Gov. As far as the Muti-Gov I think it's the best out there.
I'm thinking I was also over speeding the head speed before the Multi-Gov and that may also be part of why I had so much pop. I am also going to recheck the Min and Max pitch as this may not be as much pitch as the Raptor can do, as this may make a differance in the pop and speed. I think I am running about 9.5 both full and negative

You never mentioned your gear ratio. I am running the 8.27 gears with a Hyper 50, Hatori muffler, and Kasama head. With the regular Radix blades, I've got about 2000 head speed, 11 degrees pitch either way, and my Raptor climbs out fast.
You could probably go with more blade angle as long as your gear ratio doesn't bog the engine.
Take care,

It's the stock one guess it's 8.5 to 1 and I am leaning the engine a little at a time and it's improving. I havn't checked the pitch again but I'm pretty sure it 10 -10 I will have to work on getting 11 and see how that works.
I must ad I really like the align Pipe it's really nice my Curtis broke in half and that was it for me with any of the Curtis products. except maybe blades.

I have a Multi Gov and run Norm 1750 Idle1 1900 and Idle2 2000 I have found the R50 flys better at 1900 then 2000 but it could be just me......... thats most likely. I run stock gear and a Hyper i wonder if for how I am tuned the 1900 puts me in the sweet spot. But i have to say that Multi Gov is a simple to use and setup Gov.

The hyper makes peak power at 17,000. This means that with the standard 8.5:1 gear ratio, 2000 RPM is the peak of the power band. At 1900, you are just below that.
As far as a "sweet spot", there's no rule that says you have to be at the engine's peak. Maybe mechanically the machine just performs better at 1900. If it feels better to you there, fly it there.
