All this time I have been doing my calculations on the fact I had an 1100kv motor.

After reading the 24 pages of threads I now believe I have the 850kv tell me if I'm right.

Silver can 47mm tall.....short shaft with small flats on each side,,,,brown on top and bottom....41mm wide.

Why the heck can't they just label the stupid things with some form of identification !!!! :(

There has been more doubts by people on this forum about what motor they have...

I'm no 3d flyer so I guess the 850kv should be ok, but I got metal grips and several other upgrades for Christmas thinking I would need them becuse of headspeed, now I really won't until I upgrade the motor...

I have access to some Axi motors at good prices has anyone used an Axi yet ? If so what one would be a good choice?

Just get a Z20 or a Z30. They are well priced, run nice and cool, and are great performers.

Run the Z20 on a 14 tooth pinion and you have a nice intermediate setup that is kind on batteries and is still good for some mild 3D.

When you want a bit more 3D performance, go to a 15 or 16 tooth pinion. 16 tooth gets the head speed 2200 rpm and livens the machine up for all but extreme 3D flight. Motor still stays cool but you loose a minute or 2 of flight time depending on your flying style.

For wild 3D performance, go straight to the Z30 and hang on.

The Z motors are tried, true, and tested and in my opinion, a no brainer for this machine.

K...

I think you are right....if it was the 1100 it would suck up too much batt pwr for my style....

I will try the stock motor and save up for the Z20 or 30...I don't ever expect to be a 3d stick banger so from what i have read the Z20 should do....

If I were to buy the Z30 could I tame it down with the T curve or would I still be using more pwr than i need to...? i have an align 75A esc so I know that would handle it... I would rather have longer flight times....than unlimited pwr..

What are you using?

You'd tame it down with a smaller pinion. You don't HAVE to run a z30 as a monster but it will weigh a bit more and maybe use a little more juice. Stick a small pinion on, use if for learning aerobatics etc. If you decide you want a hike in HS then just add a tooth or two.

How can I differentiate between a Z20 and a Z20A ? On the head of the motor indicates Z-Power A series, Z20a perhaps ?

Well.....

I just asked Santa for another present...so with him and my PayPal account I have a new Z20 coming....I really don't think i'll be needing the power of the Z30...if you 3D guys think it's good, then it's way too much for me....

The Z20 will most likely be just fine....

Coming from Funrchobby....seems like the only ones that have it readily available...hate to pay the shipping but...can't take it with you..!!

Sounds like the Z20 will be perfect for you. Start off with the 14 tooth and see how that suits you. This will give you about 1900 on the head. You won't be disapointed.

I'm running the Z20 with the stock gearing and am very happy with it. Just learning some mild 3D, inverted flight and hovering, loops and rolls and flips, I get about 6 minutes flight time with a pair of 2200 3S packs, 515 CF blades, metal head, short tail boom.

I'm having a blast with this heli.

That's almost my setup exactly, just put the 515's on but haven't flown it yet other than hovering to track them in. i still have the long boom on. i have 2500 and 3300 Polyquests so I should get some good flight times...

Stock gearing....is that the 15 or the 14t?

Good question. Most kits come with a 14 tooth but some kits were shipped with a 15 tooth. (mine was shipped with a 15 tooth). Looks like you will need to count the gear to be sure.

Were are you guys buying the z motors? i had the bronze bomber motor and changed to the RCP 35/18/11H and a 13T pinion and have great performance but only get 3 minute flights doing basic 3D. I'm thinking of trying some revco gears and playing with that if anyone knows a set up for my motor, if not, I'll change motors.
