I am curently building one of the TwinRex kits and wanted to go with metal rotor heads instead of plastic. I couldn't find any of the older gray Trex 450 heads so I purchased two of the newer V2 heads in blue. I think the blue heads would look strange on a fuselage done up with a camo paint scheme. Is there such thing as an Air Force CH-47 done in Air Force Blue? If so can someone direct me to some pictures so I can copy the paint scheme?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
MadDog

Well, that would be a no. There is a chance the AF will be getting one in the near future, and if that happens.....OUT THE ARMY I GO.........watch out AF, are you ready for HOOKERS?

Thanks billyd, but I already purchased the blue heads and it is cheaper to find a good looking color scheme.

a bit beyond halfway he tells how to remove anodizing.
You can reanodize any color you want.

or just make up your own scheme using the color scheme from an air force 'blackhawk' scheme. FYI, I once built an air force cobra gunship plastic model.
Ive also tried the oven cleaner metnod of de annodizing parts and I had it work pretty good. it wasnt perfect but it got the bulk of the annodizind off. i think lye is present in oven cleaner as well.

There's a poster of a proposed AF SAR CH-47 on this website, http://www.chinook-helicopter.com/ .
Takes a few to load, but LOTS of info....

I'm in the process of getting my parts too so I can build my CH47. I don't know what I'm going to paint it yet ... not really into flying helicopters that are camo .. in front of green trees. It will blend right in ... just like it is supposed to do.
Go ahead and build your machine ... get good at flying it and get the body ready .... then you will be able to purchase 3 blade heads and swap out your blue ones. Maybe you can sell your blue ones to someone at that time who is in the process of starting out like you are now. You could also sell them to anyone who has a regular Trex.
Just my .02 worth.

Here are a couple civilan ch -47 schemes that are easy to see .The top army "fire and ice " is what I am going to do this time ,,, simple quick and easy to see for this old man :thumbup:
and since it is just for sport scale I may take a few liberties with my scheme and angle it or put in a blue strip or two also :D

Notice the removal of some of the lower sponsons on this one .... not sure why ... probably weight saving or for better below veiwing purpose ????

This one is a 46 seaknight ...but I love the paint scheme enough to do it on the 47 ,,,,when I get enough money saved to have an airbrush artist do it .;)

V22,
Thanks for the pics. I also noticed the NASA paint job on another web site and think I am going to go with that. Callie can do some kick-ass graphics and duplicate it exactly. I am now looking for materials to make the "refueling boom" that the NASA model has (if that is what you call that snorkel thingy).

You can use styrene plastic tubes of different diameters from your local hobby shop ,,, found in the train section usually .
The brand I have is Evergreen Scale Models styrene plastic ... it comes in tubes ,, rods ,, angles ,,, sheets and siding sheets
It is great for a lot of different scale applications.

its acualy the main and fwd and aft aux fuel tanks removed
im sure the fuel is in the internal tanks called ERFS
that 47 is used for logging i belive
not to sure why they would remove those and use an internal tank
normaly the fuel load is 7000lbs and an internal is 5000lbs so may be for a weight issue
the other is a CH-47 in alaska its an high altatude rescue team

According to this page:
http://www.chinook-helicopter.com/history/aircraft/Columbia/Columbia.html
They removed the tanks for weight savings and to reduce parasitic drag. The weight savings makes sense, but I don't know about the parasitic drag. The tanks don't stick out any further than the forward landing gear pods. Wouldn't a smooth continuous surface have less drag than just the landing gear pods sticking out, especially un-streamlined?

I would think it less drag with the fuel tanks all there and smooth

MadDog,
The USAF had CSAR -47's in Kandahar, when I stopped in a few weeks ago, but sorry hard to take pics on that flightline, unless they know you. Why couldn't you mist a light coat of Army Green CARC paint on your disassembled rotor head parts and keep it green? The USAF birds aren't blue anyway. You could also go with the Task Force MH-60's, as they're pretty close to black as it is...

Tom,
You're in SAL....I've flown into there a few times. I'm just about 99.99 percent positive those weren't USAF 47's you saw....CSARX is back to the drawing boards...I'm sure the 47 will win again, however. The only MH's in theater are 160 aircraft, and you should have several of them there in SAL...seen them on approach.
Anyway, cool to see that I'm not the only guy here in Afghanistan!!

47pilot,
Thanks for stopping in. Enjoying your time in KAF? SAF is OK. Heard last night you got a few prisoners running loose out there that are gonna need rounding up.
I recently read on military.com about the USAF's decision on the CSARx, so you're correct, they could not have been USAF on the ramp out there. Perhaps they were UK or Aussie?
WRT, MH's yeah.....I've seen them around :bad
