That is interesting that this little gyro works on yaw ... I wonder if the logitec 2100 would do it too as it looks kind of like the same specs.????
I'd like to try a similar gryo on the DCP, just to see the results
This might be a good deal as I am having troubles with DCP now that I am braving the no snow but cold / windy conditions to get out of the garage :clappp

I use the Logictech gyro on most of my birds (Trex. Diablo, Hurricane 550), and it's a great gyro, but it is finicky. If it drifts at all in rate mode, it doesn't perform very well in HH mode. That's why I didn't bother to try it. Let me know if you get it to work.

I just got mine the later part of last yr. ...so I don't only have maybe 8 flights on mine ... not enough to know it for sure and it was on a different bird than I am use to so ,,there are to many new things going on to sort in only a few flight .... if time permits I will give it a go ...but am more interested in your RC Tek gyro'd and how it performs on DCP ,,, especially at the price they are

I have another RC Tek gyro, currently uninstalled. I'm out of RX channels, though, so I have no way of setting the gain. I'm not going for a X9303 until I get back from the sandbox.
Is there a way to generate a signal from a separate device? Maybe use a spare lead from the BEC and a potentiometer, or something like that? Or is the gain signal more complicated then that?

Got me there ... maybe Joe can shed some light on that for you ...
JR has the match box or something that is suppose to add channels to your RX ..but never have used one .

Forward flight:
I was outside today tearing up the sky, and I noticed something. I'm having a hard time keeping the Twinn in slow forward flight. It's either fighting me like a mule that's dragging it's heels, or it wants to take off like a rocket ship. Fast and stopped are easy, I just can't maintain a slow cruise. Any tips on my setup or technique?

Doing some work on my fuse ...since I dorked the bird last weekend and had to wait for parts (a whole 3 days over the weekend ,,, dang Joe is fast ).
I do a long 3/8" tab around the whole inside of one fuselage side ... just cause I like extra work :arggg:
I think it holds its form a little better and it covers any places that you don't fit quite good enough ... paint on the lip under the seam is better than just a complete black crack .. IMHO
Some areas you have to get a little inventive to get the joint together and still have this lip in behind it ... such as the rear and front tower narrow areas.
I then like to glue on some light ply reinforcements at the screw holes . I have gorilla grip when it comes to little screws :arggg:
I also cut out the front center window so there will not be a center seam on it . I then cut out a piece of scrap clear and glue it on one side so it will look like a full solid window .... I hope ,, time will tell :)
any way here are some pix

Looks great, v22! That's pretty much what I did with mine, but I didn't continue the strip along the sharp narrow joints, like the aft pylon forward edge, forward pylon aft edge, and tip of the nose. I used a cigarette lighter to heat and bend some of the pieces, like under the nose and top of the pylon. Because of the stiffness of the plastic, it ended up straightening my ramp area slightly, so between the two halves, there is a slight mis-alignment.
My buddy shot the basecoat for me over the weekend. Work was slow today, so we added a few details. I didn't have a camera (I had no idea that we'd accomplish so much at work. lol), so pics will have to wait till tomorrow.

Hope to have some paint on mine this weekend .. I am just throwing on a quick dirty job of my own just to get it dressed up .. hate to fly without a covering of some type ... then next winter I may do one up to let the airbrush shop shot for me and do the flag job that I want .

Still building mine. Can't wait to see one fly ... hopefully mine.

Thanks for the compliments. Believe it or not, the hardest part was fitting the body. After my buddy airbrushed the base coat, the rest was pretty easy. I picked Tamiya Khaki to simulate the color of the new CH-47F. I'm actually modeling a CH-47D, but I figured OD green would be too hard to see while flying. The khaki is a nice compromise. My buddy used a nickel to cut window masks, and clear packing tape to mask the cockpit windows. The clear tape worked well because he could see the window lines, and didn't have to deal with liquid mask.
The engines are made out of cardstock (actually a DA Form 2408-13-2, obsolete since we went paperless :) ) and a tailboom from a Hurricane 550. The APU exhaust was a Esky King2 tailboom. Panel lines are from a ultra fine point Sharpie. The shading over the fuel tanks were kind of a neat trick ... I masked the sharp lines with painters tape, colored the tape with a china marker, then smudged it with my finger. The non-skid and anti-glare is just brushed on Tamiya flat black.
The engine covers are pretty neat. They're cut from a hydraulic shipping plug that fit over the Hurricane tailboom, and wrapped in painters tape. The remove before flight tags are cut from a junk troop seat from an actual 47. The chocks are just a little slice of the rubber mat from the top of my toolbox, glued to a piece of string and painted yellow.
Believe it or not, most of the decorating was done at work during breaks and lunch. This has become a team effort ... just about every one I work with has had some part in this helicopter. Actually, pretty much the only decorating I did was the fuel tank shading and fuel tank panel lines. The numbers were cut from vinyl at the LHS. It took an hour (including searching the internet for the correct font) and cost a whole five bucks.
Since this has already gotten completely out of hand, one of the avionics guys found me some flare dispensers -- you can see them in the bottom right of the last photo.

Another one almost full dress ... Got a lot of work done over the 3 day weekend ... not enough to finish though .
Enjoy my quick and dirty (don't have enough time to do it nice, pretty ,and right ) free interpretation of the Army's "Fire and Ice" Alaskan rescue bird ... since I don't consider small birds as workable scale ( can't see good enough anymore to do all the fine work that I want to do on these smaller birds ) So I deicded to add a little to the scheme .. mostly to give these old eyes something more to see .
I still have decals to make and marker pen marks to put on it ,, oh and the engine nacelles ,, just got an email from Joe that his kit ones are on the way to him right now : ) ,,,, now all we need are his 3 bladed heads ..but now atleast the bird is dressed for public ,,, if this darn snow ever leaves http://runryder.com/img/smilies/rolleyes.gif http://runryder.com/img/smilies/wink.gif http://runryder.com/img/smilies/biggrin.gif

Another beautiful paint job. Well done Larry. I so want to get mine done, flying and working on my fuselage. You two have set the bar very high for the rest of us. Thanks for sharing your nice machines.

That looks great! I like your interpretation of the Alaska bird lot better than the actual paint scheme. Can't wait to see it with decals, etc. That's pretty shiny ... did you paint the inside of the body?

Thanks
I painted it quick and dirty with walmart Krylon Fusion paint for plastics .... and I will never do that again :arggg: . I just wanted to get a fair looking fuse on it so I could see it better if and when I get to fly it outside .
It is painted on the outside,, no clearcoat yet either ...the paint covers nice (too nice as it left a big build up at the masking tape edge ) and leaves it shinny ,,but it softens the older paint enough that some places it left random patterns of the tapes sticky marks in the older paint under the masking .

Hi Folks,
I just received my TwinnRexx kit. That completes what I've been waiting for. The servos, gyros, and rotor blades have been waiting for a couple of weeks now. It sure looks like it's going to be fun. About the only down side is, I'm going to be busy with work for most of this week so it'll be a while before I can start the building process. I must say, this is the first model helicopter I've bought that included a bag of candy! :)
Will keep in touch!

Intrepid175,
I'm currently building my kit too. You will find that the kit is just as sweet as the candy Joe threw in with your order. Joe has a great product and he has the best service I have ever delt with when ordering online. Enjoy your kit. I hope to be able to get in my first flight next weekend.

Flew with 3 blade heads today. I was tired of people at work bugging me about 3 blade heads, so I bought a pair just to show everyone why two blades are better. (Well, that and as of May, the heli will be a display model hanging up in the LHS for a year.) Surprisingly, the first test flight went very well. It took a whole lot of trim, but the rest of the setup was pretty much the same.
Unfortunately, the second test flight didn't go so well. I accidentally hit the GEAR switch and the heli stood up on its back wheels and whacked the aft blades on the ground. Fortunately, only one broke. Unfortunately, I don't have any more of that particular type of blade. What was strange, was that the blades managed to whack themselves out of phase, but the gears didn't seem to have taken any damage.
Sorry, I don't have any photos. Trust me, the photos I posted with the fuselage on look a lot better than any I would have taken today. I'll fix the helicopter next week, fly a few more test flights, then report my findings to Joe. I don't want to steer anyone wrong with what I might think is an okay setup, when Joe has something 10X better in the works.
