Mine is aah.... sorry.. was new as i tried to break him in also the last weeks. So the break in flight was at the 2degree celsius like i told. I think i will take a warming bottle( Wärmflasche) with me the next flights and put it on the engine. When he is warm he starts right away.
I will try to start the OS 50 without any temperature help so i possibly have the same problems like you.
I think i have to move to florida the temperature is better for heli´s :-)
By the way does anyone in the warmer region of america need a master craftsman in informations technology ;-)

Marcel,
I live in the UK and temps are around 0deg. C - My engine starts without any problems whatsoever; 2 second burst of starter and it fires into life.
You must be doing something wrong - have you checked glow plug is ok?
Ensure you have removed the exhaust bung before filling the tank with fuel as this will cause the engine to flood.
Start from scratch; Turn the needle jet CLOCKWISE until it is fully closed then open 1.3 turns this time.
Put the mixture screw back to its centre position then turn it so it is half way between centre and full lean.
Make sure the throttle is open slightly; approx 2mm from the fully closed mark.
try starting now.

@fishtank
let me know about your "tries" with the os 50.... which amount of nitro are you using ?... just to see.. how exactly we are having the same point to start/try from ;-)
@nikpro
Thank you very much for your support ! :-)... i'll definitly try what you've suggested the next time i'm "willing" to give the engine another try ;-)
somehow... i feel, that i've just had not enough idle throttle during my first tries... but i'll how it goes the next time !
do you do anything special with you heli to prepare it for the cold temperature... and secondly... to bring it back to a warm place ? (prevent condensation water inside the engine) i don't know if you saw my other post about my bearings which got rusty and corroded on that new align os 50 engine ?
Cheers

I don't do anything special, straight from the car I fill with fuel then start it and fly it.
End of day I shut off engine put bung in exhaust and place in car; go home and wipe heli down. I use coolpower fuel which has an afterrun oil built in.
Finless has done an article on the rusty bearings - very common as the races and balls are made from different materials.

I use Coolpower 12.5% nitro heli
That´s the only fuel my dealer has right now.
I´ll send you a message when i am ready to break in.
I first had a Caliber 3 with the same engine and the break in flight was in juli and i had no problems with starting the engine
@nikpro
You really can start your engine without any warming ?
Maybe it´s the GX36H engine which is not the big hit in this heli because mine needs warm air to start

Just FYI a couple of chaps at my club have noticed how coolpower has fibres in it - keep an eye on your fuel filters.

Yep; it starts really easily; litrally 2 seconds of starter and it fires - I then let it idle for about 30 seconds before I fly it.

I have all electric heli's (450SEv2 etc.) and I am building my first 600N pro. I have never run Nitro before and I have seen a number of treads on Nitro fuel. I know what the manufacture recommends is there any fuel that causes the OS-50 issues?
Thanks

first of all... thanks to everybody in this thread for their tips and information....i very much helped me to start my engine this time.... but read on :-)
ok.... i did a break-in on the engine which i was having problems with yesterday.... i've mounted the engine to my airskipper 50.... so i was using a different muffler! however... this time the engine started successfully.
these where the "settings" i've used:
mixture screw at arround the 1 o'clock position
needle valve 1.5 turns out
the throttle mark at the engine case was 2-3mm away from "zero" position.
well... while i was on the first tank... i just messured the engine temperature and was "excited" that it only reached 122 Fahrenheit/50 Celsius even with some little bit of hovering! i therefore leaned the needle valve to arround 1 1/4 turns out.... but still 122 Fahrenheit/50.
i also realized, that my mixture screw was a little bit to rich... because at arround half throttle stick the engine started running faster compared to the stick movement!
Anyway... i have read in another thread, that 212 Fahrenheit / 100 Celsius is a good breakin temperature to target at. so my next question is... how do i get that engine to temperature ( air temp was arround 0 Celsius / 32 F) without explicitly running it to lean? i don't want to fly arround with the bird until the engine is broken in!
Greets and Thanks
Marcel

You need to put a load on a ringed motor to break it in. The advice I have seen is to hover for 1 - 2 minutes, land let it idle for a while and check temp, then repeat.

thats exactly what i did..... or is hovering at about 1 feet not high enough for the engine ;-)
