View Full Version : dx7/401/idle switch problem
Hi all,
I have the following problem with my dx7 and dont know why .
In normal mode my gy 401 gyro locks into heading hold.
in idle 1 gyro comes out of hh and gyro light pulses
in idle 2 gyro locks back into hh.
also when i flick from idle 1 to idle 2 the trim of the swash changes.
The gyro is set for auto sense revo mixing is at 0% all ruond
idle 1 and 2 have identical pitch and throttle curves
I have the same set up for my trex 450 and all is good.
Does anyone know what i should do cause i cant figure this out?

Just a quick shot at this, these radios have separate trims for each flight mode. Make sure the trims are the same in each one by toggling through the flight mode switch and watching the screen, adjust as needed.
I would skip the gyro menu function, just put it on the gear switch and be done with it.
thanks wren 1702. You were right on about how each mode has its own trim. I assumed that once trimmed in one mode ot would be the same across all.
Istill havent got to the bottom of the gyro issue though . I will probably do what you suggested about the switch but i still want to find out what the problem is?
thanks

Simon,
Go to the Gyro Sens screen. Under where it says "GYRO SENS" does it say "AUTO" or "RUDD D/R"? If "AUTO", look to the right side of the screen where you would see "F.MODE". Under that you see "NORM", "STNT" and "HOLD". The number to the right of each of those will select the % for gain that you have for "RATE 0" or "RATE 1". For example, if you have 75% for Rate 0 and 30% for Rate 1. Then, if you have 0 for F.MODE NORM, 1 for F.MODE STNT and 0 for F.MODE HOLD you will get 75% gain for normal mode and hold mode. Only the stunt modes will have 30%. If you want all to be the same with AUTO mode, set them all to the desired gain. Or, if you want to select which one you have at the time your flying, set it to RUDD D/R and use your gear switch to select the gain (standard or HH) you want. So, if you have your gear switch set to put the gyro in HH, it will be in HH no matter what flight mode setting you are in and won't change as you change modes.
I think that is what you are looking for.

Generally I prefer to use Gyro Sense to control the Gyro gain for different flight modes as it gives me more control over the gyro. Unless you need specific gyro settings for Stunt 1 and Stunt 2 just set the gains the same on normal, stunt1 and stunt2.
Trims are individual to each flight mode and do not copy accross automatically. On your TX (with chopper off) change flight modes and watch the channel indication bars on the readout screen. They shouldn't move as you switch modes (except for throttle).
That's a quick way to see if your trims are different and allow you to quickly match them up to be the same.

You can't choose whether to have trims common or different between flight modes?
On the 9303 you can set that. So you can start with common trims to get the inital gross trim out of the way, and then switch to by flight mode to fine tune trims for each flight mode.

Hi all,

Try this, go the the DX7 screen that shows the signals of all servo channels, identify the gyro sensitivity channel and move the switch between normal, st1, and st2 modes. Do you see a significant difference in the gyro sensitivity channel between the three modes?
In general, the 401 interprets positive signals as HH mode and negative signals as rate mode and the magnitude of the signal indicates the desired gain.
