I have been using this for sometime now, but the past few days really, it really showed its value.
First, this is a multi-purpose tool that has many functions including Heli tach (3000 rpm), watt meter (100 amps), ESV (up to 1 amp), battery cycler (up to 1 amp discharge rate), temperature reader, and Servo tester.
My first use of this was when I needed an heli tach more than a year ago. When my electric fixed wing stable started to gow I started using the watt meter functionality. The wattmeter has standard function, watts, amps, voltage, and mah used or pulled from the battery. Simple, easy to use.
My next project is a Showtime 4D 90 electric conversion. This just started 2 days ago. I decided to use the servo's I had available and several of them were in a crash and thrown in a drawer and others had not been used in years. Can't even recall what aircraft/heli they could have been in.
Once again pulled out the Helimaster and used the servo test function. You can move the servo in tiny steps by pressing the button or have it set to auto where it runs the servo through its entire movement. You can also change the rate at which the servo movement takes place. I ran it at the slowest, middle, and highest rates. As you test the servo, you can also see the draw (in amps) that servo will have on the system. The typical 70 oz analog servo was pulling .1 to .3 amps. The 140 oz analog servo was pulling between .3 to .5 amps.
As I ran it on auto at the slowest setting, not only can you hear the servo through the movement, but I put my fingers on the output gear and you can feel it. If any gear was broken, more than likely I would have heard it but I would have felt it in my fingers and see that amp draw jump through the bind in the gears.
This device has every function that if you fly electric or glow that you would need in 1 great package. For the fixed wing guys, there is the Checkmaster. Only difference (other than lower price) is a prop tach instead of a heli tach.
The unit is made all aluminum, anodized blue, and has a great backlit LCD display. Includes 1000 mah nimh battery.
Lastly, Bantam will be releasing a flight data recored and the Helimaster/Checkmaster will read the data from the flight recorder. Future release.
