Just got a hawk pro with a 40 toki fully assembled from a well known auction site, clutch was sticking so i stripped it, got it spinning free by lightly sanding the lining then giving the shoes a gentle squeeze, started it up and all was fine, then revved the motor up and switched off, the clutch is now sticking again to the point that it turns the engine over when i turn the blades, is this normal or is the clutch shoe worn out? it has a plastic clutch housing but this seems fine, hope someone can help!

Hello have a hawk pro and have never incountered this problem, But when i buy something from someone unknown their always seems to be something that is someone elses problem, Like a used computer. I have a problem buying something as percise as a heli that i didnt build, (you never know whats the reason why the sold it), A clutch problem is hidden intell you try to fly it. Ball links, setup is right there just waiting for you to fix them. But engine problems or anything internal you just dont know! I would start with a new clutch and work from there. It will cost you less to purchase the entire kit $200.00 And you know what you have to work with. Or just fix or try to troubleshoot the many things (which may be several little things) that will nickle and dime you to death just to get to the bottom of it. Sorry for such a stern answer but ive learned their are no deals when it comes to computers or helicopters!

The reason that it was dragging initially is because the previous owner obviously had a few hot starts which wore out enough of the clutch lining that the shoes on the clutch where forced out to far and lost their tension. This is why you had to "squeeze" them back in.

This indicates they were too sprung and should have been replaced.

Whenever the shoes are sprung excessively on ANY heli, one should ALWAYS replace the liner AND the clutch.

I'll second the time for a new clutch and liner. If you can, install the metal clutch assembly. #CN2225 I think this would hold it's size better than the plastic one.

Take the clutch apart and check that the slots on the shoe are parallel. If not you can straighten them up on a vise. It it grabs again after that you will have to replace the shoe since the metal lost its strength and elasticity.

Then check the liner and make sure there is enough material left (at least 1mm).

If you are in doubt just replace the liner: remove the old one, sand the bell and epoxi the new one. Make sure to leave a small gap (half a millimeter) in the liner's length in order for the liner to sit properly. Use the shoe with a plastic wrapped around it in order to press the liner against the bell.

Thanks for all your help, i have on order the entire assembly including a metal clutch housing, I see this as a safety issue so not taking any chances!
