Newbie here. I was wondering if when you hook up the battery to the alancer do you also have to hook up the discharge leads to the output on the charger?..i thried it both ways and the only way i can get the battery to charge is by hooking up the balancer and the discharge leads...am i doing this right?

I first connect the balancer to the battery and check for pack balance. After the battery does the balance routine, I then connect the balancer to the charger via the data cable.
You could also connect the balancer to the charger while balancing the battery but I always wait until the balance is done before I try to start charging.
Once the battery is balanced, you can charge with or without the balancer attached.
I only hook up the charger output leads to the battery power connector when I am ready to charge. (that's just what I do) not sure what others do at this point.
NOTE: You can only charge the battery with the charger output connector attached to the battery. That's the only way power is sent to the battery..

If you need any more help with it, let me know. I purchased one and hopefully people are aware that they need a few other things in order for this setup to work.
They can also check out the finless video.:thumbsup2:
You will need:
1. External 12v power supply. I'd say at least 10 amps. (or) car battery.
2. Lipo batteries with the Thunder power balance leads or adapter if using the 210 balancer with non-TP or Kong Power batteries.
3. Output leads with banana plugs and male deans connector. (for charging)
4. You can charge other batteries without the TP balancer but I would recommend getting a separate balancer for balancing non-TP or KP batteries.

Yes, the charger charges through the main discahrge leads. The balancer only bleeds excess charge from high cells.
I leave the balancer connected to teh charger via the data cable at all times.
I plug the pack into the balancer and check that it reads the proper number of cells, then I connect the charger leads to the pack, and start the charge. If the pack is too far out of balance, the balancer will tell the charger and prevent charging.
If I am curious as to how far out of balance the pack is, I push and hold the left most button and it will display the high and low cell number and voltage and the imbalance amount.
There is no need to let the balancer do its thing prior to charging unless the pack is way out of balance.

+1 with Pinecone's method.
Also, no need to buy more balancers for non-TP packs. Buy or build adapters. I charge Align, TP, FP and Airthunder packs with my 1010/210 combo all the time. I've spent $6 on adapters to get 'em all to balance on the 210.

Yeap a handful of adapters and reversers and away you go. I even charge my 2 x 3S 3200 Hextronic packs in series.

Exactly!
... adapters are needed.. So, how do I make them?

I buy them. :)
Common Sense RC is where I got mine. I got a couple of Tp -> CSRC (which are the "other plug") and a couple of sets over reversers.

If you are charging older Kong Power 6S batteries (the ones with non-TP connectors), you can use the align adapter and hook the adapter to your 210. This works fine for me and is a non-issue. I set my charger for 6S and charge rate of 1C. Plug in the battery balance connector, plug in the main leads and start charging. Never had a problem.
BTW, the new Kong Power Batteries have the TP balance connectors on them.
