I have the OS91 SZ motor. What i won't to know is how do i tell if i am running the motor to lean/rich; as i cannot feel the back plate temperture due to the pump being in the way.

The motor is very smokey and oily, which would make me think that it is running rich and it seems to get smokeyer towards the end of the tank. When i say smokey i mean every body comments on how smokey it is?

One other thing what does the regulator on the carb do?

The regulator on the carb. It does exactly what the name implies. It regulates fuel flow to the carb from the pump. LOL
As for the motor be very smokey and oily. That depends on what fuel your using. I would suggest leaning the motor a few clicks at a time. Doing that till it gets to the point of sounding ratty. You can tell, it will be cackling from being lean. Then richen it back up about 6-8 clicks and you should be about in optimum setting.
