You may have not had a problem but I did and so did a lot of other people. I too filled out the form that came with my radio, made a copy for my records and sent it to the address on the form (not too tough). About 6-8 months later I start sending emails to no avail. So I call and I am told to send the form in again, so I make another copy and put it in the mail. Three, four months go by and I decide to call again to see if they have received it, never heard of me nor have they seen my application. I am told it must have gotten lost in the mail, please send it again. Well the USPS can screw up now and then but come on! So I make one more copy and send it to God knows where because two years have gone by now and nothing, nota!
I have had enough and decided it wasn’t worth it but posted my efforts here on HF. I believe it was davidh that mentioned that this had been a problem with others and I should contact Bill Baxter via email.
I ended sending a scanned copy via email to Bill and two weeks later I get an email with my information to the FFC.
So any idiot can fill out the form and stick a stamp to it, you just got lucky!
Then why do you have to go through the BS to get the membership? Why not just an online registration like any other forum? Oh, and you can find a least three other sites to download the updates from.
Again, just relating my experience. My friend who got is radio shortly after they came out didn't have a problem either.
You'll have to contact Futaba USA for an answer as to why the site isn't publicly available.
