I should probably clarify that I'm using the 30% HV and not the new Curtis fuel.

Breaking the motor in on 15% and then switching to 30% is not a problem. I have swapped back and forth between 30% and 15% more than a few times. All that has to be done is the needle adjusted properly each time a change is made.

Hi Dave and thanks for the info, ive just run this engine for the first time and if im understanding the instructions ,it says to break it in with the needle valve 1.5 turns open from normal settings, which is usually 1.5 turns right?
when trying to start the motor i have what seems to me to be alot of oil coming out of the exhaust, and it doesn run very well. is this normal for breaking in the motor.

Yep, 3 turns out is more than safe on the Hyper. At that rich of a setting, you will see a bunch of unburned fuel coming through the exhaust as well as sluggish response from the collective stick. Don't worry about it :) After each flight, give the high end needle a few clicks in (clockwise) and before long you'll have that engine purring along nicely. Considering 15% can be run a little leaner than 30% nitro, I'd imagine your final high end needle settings will be in the 1 and 1/4 out to 1 turn out range.

Kinger,Thanks for the info,I was concerned about all the oil.It should be broke in good after a gallon or so,right?

Go ahead and set the needle between 1 1/2 and 1 3/4 open from fully closed. With 15% fuel that should be plenty of protection and let the engine run nicely. Don't close the needle more than 1 1/4 open from fully closed. It takes a couple of gallons before the motor will begin to break in. I always just set the needles a little to the rich side and fly the heli like I normally would after the first tank. The instructions for the 50SXH state to open the needle 2 turns for start up. That is not the Hyper but the instructions will be similar. The OS Hyper 50 that I have helped start up the first time really ran nice at 1 1/2 turns open with 30% fuel. These were brand new engines with the first fuel thru them.

DavidH, The instructions between the two engines have exactly the same wording except for the amount to open the needle. The 50SX-H one says to open the needle 2 turns from fully closed with an extra 2 turns for break-in, where the 50SX-H Hyper's says 1.5 turns open from fully closed and an extra 1.5 turns for break-in. The actual wording for the break-in setting is "about X turn open from normal setting will usually suffice." - yes, the plural isn't there for the regular SX-H :D.
