Regarding blades I have been running 350mm on mine.
On another topic:
Today I am playing with a variation in throttle and pitch settings. I read an interesting post on another site and thought I would give the settings posted there a try.
(With a little nudge of my own...)
Norm:
Throttle, 0,40,70,87,100 EXP - On
Pitch, 50,62.5,75,87.5,100 Exp - On
Initial trial: Ambient Temp 68 degrees - No Wind - Hovering and small circuits.
My original settings were pretty much from the 3D set-up of the stock 450 (Posted earlier, page 6). I would fly in Stunt 1 mode. Hover was about 5/8 throttle travel, etc. About 6 minute of flight time.
Recently I had a standoff/spacer issue (no damage - issue resolved), and ever since then I had been seeing lower battery duration, just under 5 min. Changing dampers and zip tying the 450 frame to the plywood base was the only new work done. Couldn't figure out why the change. Oh well ...
So ..., in my usual need to tweak, I had been reading a bit on line regarding throttle and pitch settings, and when I saw the post on the other site I said what the heck.
Results: 1st Flight - Very Nice! - Need more testing though.
With these settings I fly Norm only. Hover at mid throttle. Good response, and even less vibration than before!! Battery duration 7 + minutes. I am using 12T pinion. Main blade pitch is +- 10, pitch swash mix changed to 55.
Most interesting!!! :)

I use a modified T600 blade holder.

For my blade holder I used the stock 450 piece, contoured the bottom per the 500E boom, and attached a velcro strap. The strap originaly had the buckle on one end. I cut that portion off, used a hobby T pin and pinned it to one side of the holder. Then pinned the remaining portion of the strap to the other side of the holder. I did double over the ends and stitched them a bit to make it look nicer. But very simple and very sturdy!! A bit of CA or goop on the T pins makes sure they are secure.
Cheers

Bob. Most interesting indeed... thanks for posting!
I'd been considering something similar, but this is my first scale heli (still building) so didn't know what to expect.
Can you provide a link to the other thread?
Cheers,
Paul

Where are you guys finding the "Danger" arrow decals pointing to the tail rotor?
I have some laser decal paper... does anyone have the artwork for these or anything else interesting for the 500E fuse?
Thanks,
Paul

Bob, I like that; think I will do something similar. Simple and effective!

Pitch, 50,62.5,75,87.5,100 Exp - On
These figers don't make any sence to me.
As soon as you go below half stick you have no negitve pitch and start to loss head speed.
Try these if you are not happy with your own setting.
Norm:
Throttle, 0,75,80,85,90 EXP - off
Pitch, 35,45.63,83,100 Exp - off
Swash mix pitch 60
11T pinion, 450L motor,Verson 1 SE and align 325 carbon blades

As mentioned, I need to do more test flights. Initially I was impressed with what I saw for the type of flying I am doing with the 500. We will see. Thanks for your feed back.

Great looking 500's guys! If I ever get some time off, I'll get my 450 Hughes together. I also have a Century .50 size 500E fuse on the way for my 600...

I had Century's Augusta fuse on my Swift until the ground decided to jump up and grab it. Fantastic quality-light years ahead of Align's stuff. Of course, 5 times the price too!
You guys with the shiny red/blue Hughes' are making me jealous-Snoop yours turned out great too! Mine's become a bit of a ratter-turns out the flybar WILL hit during certain abrupt maneuvers. Fixed the hole and finally found paint that matches so I can hide those ugly seams. Still can't find the right size guns.
Thanks for the blade holder tips-duplicating Bob's setup took all of five minutes and works great!!

Can't argue with the price. Let us know how it goes together. How's it compare to the century fuselage?

The flybar hitting the fuselage has been a concern for me, so I won't attempt to do rolls and loops with my Hughes 500D fuselage.
But, if you want to do extreme maneuvers, then consider installing the RC-Tek Rotor (http://www.rc-tek.com/us_store/index.html) head, is has a over slung flybar. Comes in anodized red, blue, or gray.

Thanks for the tip BlackTi-I may have to resort to that if I can't learn to restrain myself.:o Sharp bird btw! I'd hate to crash something so pretty. In my hands, it's only a matter of time. Seems all my heli's are destined to be cosmetically challenged.

Question I have is where is everyone getting these 500 E kits ? Only place I could find them was Canada, Australia and China. I don't do Ebay, so I guess I am out of luck. :arggg:

 Ummm.... turbine50, only one of those links has the Align 500E fuselage.
I'm sure his point was that he can't find any Align 500E fuselages in stock, in the US.

They are out of stock now, but keep an eye on HeliProz (http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=335262), and GrandRC (http://www.grandrc.com/inc/sdetail/116071), for the Align 500E fuselage.
Most of my fuselages have come from Hong Kong, Align A-109, HeliArtist 500D.
Today I just received the HeliArtist 500D N23CP from Hong Kong.

Yeah, I guess I should have been more specific. Personally I am looking for the Align 500 E with White/red/ blue with the blue on the tail. It's amazing how many shops show them but all are out of stock. I would hve thought supply would have been up by now. Thanks for those links guys.
