USNAviationjay - Looks Great!!!
Just have to ask - Are you or were you in the Navy? My son did nine years - fire control, with the majority of his time on carrier duty in Japan. Finishing with two years as intructor in Virginia. He is now getting into heli's since his ol man has gotten back into them. Like father like son as they say...

USNAviationJay,
I like agressive FFF, fast bank turns, climbs outs and descents. No 3D, loops or rolls with my 500 fuselage. And I like to fly smooth and slow too.
You'll have to experiment with your set up, to suit your flying style.
But again, Expo is the key to taming your Heli for smooth controlled scale flying.

Yah BT.. It's getting there.. I need to take it to the AMA field and see how it really does.
all I've done so far is hover and slow FF around my place and its fairly small airspace.

This has been, and is a very interesting thread.I just got my 500 delta fuse yesterday.Since I flew a A model,I have to build a whole new tail for mine (V-tail).I will paint it OD green, and put my markings on it from my old unit.Eventually I will do up some scale strutts, and I'm working on an odea to make them operate like the full scale does. All in good time I guess.Thank you all for the great info here.I hope in time,I will be able to contribute to the many tips here.

Hello my name is Daniel and I live in Switzerland :)
I just started with the Trex450, it is my 4 Heli so far, after I have seen this thread, I went to get a 500 Fuselage, I also got a HS-56HB servo as Tailservo.
@USNAviationjay: Will it be a big diffrence to fly with this servo, compared to my 9257???
@BlackTitanium: OT A very nice picture!!! Do you have this in highresolution??? :)
@ all: Thanks for all the good building tips in this thread!!!
Cheers

Just ordered a Scaleoheli 500D off ebay from Hong Kong. Cant wait to get it. I read through most all the posts in this 37 page thread! :YeaBaby: So I cant wait to start.
Some were saying this bad boy is way bigger than they expected, and there were a few photos that let you get a somewhat realization of how big it is. But I was wondering if anyone could snap a pick with a 500E or D sitting beside a stock 450 or even a Trex 500 for size comparisons?

Hey Black.
How do you like that N23CP?
Is the quality of the fiberglass as nice as helihobby says they are? According to them, these look much better than the other plastic types.
Its made by scaleoheli right?

It's my favorite scale fuselage!
Looks big in the sky, has excellent flight characteristics, has the most realistic look of scale flight.
It has a beautiful metal flake finish that is fantastic in the sunlight.
It has survived 3 crashes, due to mechanical failure, just a few minor cracks in the paint.
HeliArtist makes the ScaleoHeli and Align 500E fuselages.
I was wondering if someone could make a suggestion on a pinion for a 430xl with 335 woods on a 450sev2. I plan on installing this into my 500d. I used ready helis head spead calculator and factored in 13t, 3cell, 3700kva, .90 drag co. It gave me a head speed readout of 3200, which is to high for a wood blade. However, I'm not quite sure if this factors in blade size. I was wondering if anyone here is using the same setup as me and what size pinion you are using w/ pitch and throttle curves. Thanks

I bought the US Army painted 500d from heliartist, but I'm not crazy about the color green they used. It looks more like a Japanese Defense Force green than a US Army OD Green. Maybe I'll repaint my fuselage the proper OD Green and turn it into a 160th SOAR little bird.

Thats the reason I bought the unpainted one.I just got some of the stuff I ordered for mine,so I'll get back to work on it.I just built the adf antenna for it,and the ky-28 antenna too.I'm really not happy with the strutts, all wrong for the A model.I have a feeling I won't rest until I do something about it,BUT,I'm in no hurry.I still have a OH-58A fuse to build for my other 450,and a H-model fuse for my 300 size heli. Now,if I could just win th' lottery:thumbup:

I have all of HeliArtist fuselages governed at 3100 rpm, using a Castle Creations Phoenix 35 ESC.
This head speed provides the power needed to fly with full stability, agility, control and authority. 10-20 mph wind gust are no problem to fly in.
You're going to have to buy Carbon Fiber main rotors, to fly your scale model.
I use the Mavrikk E-Series 335 Carbon Fiber (http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=802320) main rotors from HeliProz.
There's not a lot of choices out there for 335mm rotors.
13T is the correct pinion for use with the 430XL.
A flat 92-INH-92-INH-92, or 100-INH-92-INH-100 Throttle Curve, should provide you the targeted head speed.
Apply 20% expo on Aileron and Elevator, 25% expo on rudder.
Enable Expo on the swash and all Pitch and Throttle curves.
The expo will tune your Heli for smooth scale flight.
BT, Thanks for this info.

BT,thanx for the tips.I just bought 3 sets of 325mm flat bottom blades to try out.I'm going to use the Lightning Heli 4 blade main rotor head and see where that goes. The other set of flatbottoms I'm going to use for my scale oh-58a project.I could be wrong here, but I figure since none of my flying involves 3d (not intentionally) I want to see extended run times and more lift from a bit lower head speeds.I don't know how it will work out,but I'll give it a shot anyways, and post my results if anyone would be interested.Running expo is an excellent idea, especially with the 4 blade main rotor.I never really bought into the helicommand electronics thing for multi blade systems, although again,I could be wrong.

Hey Black,
Thanks for all the tips. Im gonna set mine up exactly how you described, seems like a good one.
One other question i have, my Trex 450sa is outfitted with S75 servos on all points. Do you think these servos will suffice for scale and sport flight with the 500D or should I bite the bullet and upgrade?
Thanks,
Matt
