550 boom +tail assembly

is there a sure fire way to set up the tail assembly so everything is 90deg up down, or do i just plug it in and look down the boom and line up the blades with the side of the frame.

Yep, pretty much an eyeball job. You can sight it pretty good though if you line the tail output shaft up with either a frame or head part.
