Well I just tried my first spin-up, It sounded good , got the blades tracking good, got it light in the basement. Well took out in the yard, and as soon as I started increasing pitch I could hear the one way slipping, and started losing head speed. I was reading the recent thread on this issue and the CA fix for it. I was wondering what is the easiest way to get this gear assembaly out, without taking the frame apart

I thought I read something on this before, but I could'nt find it. Thank's for your help, Dave.

first remove the four bolts that hold the hub in and remove the main gear, then the hub/one way assy will slide out. if the owb is loose enough it might fall out of the gear, if not a large punch and a light tap of a hammer will free it. then i just scuffed up both surfaces with a scotchbrite pad and used red threadlock to reinstall. just take care to note what way the bearing comes out and put it back the same way. i forgot to take notice of that, and had to take everything back apart to make it right. this procedure should hold it nicely.

Does the large machine screw at the bottom of the shaft come off also ?
And I dont even have to take the head, and main shaft off, right ?
Dave.

head and main shaft can stay on. if you're refering to the screw directly underneath the main gear, yes that has to come off to remove the main gear. if your refering to the screw that is sunk vertically into the shaft that the owb spins on then no, that stays in.

did your 550 come with a yellow sheet of zerox paper, telling you that the one way bearing and shaft is a bigger size? says the original size is a 6mm shaft and now they're 8mm.
