My grandfather has been flying r/c aircraft since the beginning. (way before i was even born). needless to say hes a little stuck in his ways. Recently the gyro on his shluter champion died. he has been using a jr nej-120 s. I atempted to get him to buy a newer one. He doesent like the fact that they done have motors in them anymore. "cant here the gyro spin up". Does anyone know if that style of gyro is still made anyware? If not what would be a good modern replacement?. He flies a 60 size shluter campion w/ a 70 in it. does not fly 3D only some loops & rolls. Mostly just relaxed crusing. Any help would be apreciated .I cant help him much .Everything i fly is small & electric.

the Futaba 240 will work well with the servo he already has.
The spinning gyros are not made any longer to my knowledge, you may be able to find one on fleabay however.

Yep I flew the gyros with the spinning brass wheels for several years. Got to remember the piezo gyros for models have not been available but about 13-14 years. The CSM Heading Hold gyro came out in early 1997. As Wayne said, none of the gyro companies have sold or produced the spinning wheel type gyros since about 1995. If he is set in having that type of gyro. You might put a Want To Buy add in the classifieds of Helifreak. There is quiet a few guys that still have some of the vintage electronics and helis. Or try Ebay as Wayne suggested. The JR gyro your grandfather had sold for less than $100 just to give you an idea of price range.
I would suggest maybe the Futaba GY 240 or GY 401. Heck even some of the cheaper electronic gyros that sell for about $75 would be better than the JR gyro was. I am guessing your Grandfather doesn't want to use a gyro with Heading Hold. LOL Yes he will have to learn to fly it a little different, but he should have no problems a few minutes after flying it.

It was kinda cool, powering up the heli and hearing the gyro spinning up.
Actually miss that sound.
