HELLO ALL,
I am nearly finished building my spectra g but the more i think about the mixing settings the more it is doing my nut in. I want to have smooth flight with some loops and rolls (but not hard 3d) and was wanting to know what is the best mixer set up.

What i have got and done so far is the alloy mixer with the bearing boss toward the blade grip and the new type flybar carrier in the outer hole in the carbon pieces and the short mixer rod going to the middle hole of the 3 positions. Does the outter hole in the carbon pieces give smoother flight?.

Some peoples helis i have seen have the mixer flipped so that the long mixing rod is on the inner hole of the two on that side, does that also give a smoother flight?. Also the ball at the bottom of the short mixing rod that mounts to the fly bar carrier is also a double ball with an outter and inner position, what difference does these two positions give?.

I have done a search and got some information on this but i am still not much the wiser.

I would like to say that i have never needed to post here before as i was searching the forum as i was building the spectra g and the information that you guys know on this heli has been fantastic but i am really confused with the mixer setup.

Also i would like to say that i have seen the clip of Raja flying the spectra and it was the smoothest flying i have ever seen and the very style of flying that appeals to me.

Somebody please help me or i will go BALD in a very short space of time.

MANY THANKS FOR ANY HELP THAT YOU CAN GIVE ME.

Which head are you using the Tempest(all alum) or the Extreme (alum head block w/composite blade grips) I have mine set up for smooth flight but 3d capable. Let my know about the head I will post some pictures of mine(picture worth a thousand words) Other questions please ask. Dave

Hi Dave, Sorry i should have said what head i am running.

The head is the alloy extreme with composite blade grips.

I am just at a loss as to what difference all the possible mixer combInations make.

THANK YOU FOR GETTING BACK TO ME.

Ok here goes. Mixers should be installed with the bearing boss away from the blade grip(next to the bolt head) The short link from the flybar carrier connects to the long ball on the mixer. Long rod from the swashplate connects to the short ball on the mixer.
On the flybar carrier the ball should be in the center hole(normal position), the inner hole is more radical/less stable, outer less radical/more stable.
On the carbon fiber pieces use the inner hole for more flybar authority(more stable), outer hole less flybar more radical.
I have both my Spectra and Stratus set this way and they both fly smooth not pitchy but do good 3D (not radical)
I think your mixers need reversed, boss out not in. Remember more flybar authority more stable less responsive. Hope this helps, Dave

Hi Dave,
I have now made all the changes you said to do (mixer flipped to have bearning boss at bolt head, inner hole now being used in the carbon flybar pieces, and the rod and ball positions you gave).

I am now getting +/- 10 pitch and +/- 7 cyclic.

Is -5 +10 and +/-6 cyclic a good start for normal smooth loops and rolls?.

With all this setup you gave what difference does it make to go from the centre hole to the outer hole of the three on the flybar carrier (you say less radical/more stable) is it giving more flybar input or does it just make it smoother around centre?.

THANK YOU.

Moving out gives more flybar input which give more stability. I use some expo in the Trans to soften up the center stick position. i assume you are using 0deg at center collective stick, if so just set normal, and idle ups the same 0deg at half, 3/4 hovering pitch, +10 at full stick. Set normal to -5 at low, idle ups to -10 at low, throttle hold to -5 at low. 6-7 deg of cyclic is good(mine are at 6) Dave
