View Full Version : Gluing the blade roots on the stock woodies

I suddenly thought today to epoxy up the blade root spacers on the stock H550 woodies. I tried pulling the plastic pieces off one of the blades, but they seemed to be stuck down already. I started to lift the plastic and it
felt like it was going to tear up the wood. So I just stuck some CA in there and stuck it back down. I didn't try removing the spacers on the other blade for fear of weakening it.

Are these glued up alright from the factory? Other than the Hurri all I've got is a T-Rex 450, so I've never glued up blades before.

I do have a set of RCP 500mm carbons, but I want to run the woodies for a little while yet in case of "mishaps" ;-)

I got a little worried after reading this thread: http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=14957

Hi!
Besides balancing I would not touch a blade at all... don't think too much about postings. If there would be more like that I would think about it, but it isn't. By the way Gaui would also react...
There's always a risk, but at least if you exchange your blades after an accident and you always make your flight-checks this risk should be as small as possible. You shouldn't use the wood blades for higher rpm.. if you stay below 2000 they should be okay.

Fair enough. I'm running at somewhere between 1900-2000 RPM (calculated) at the moment. I'll probably switch to the carbons soon anyway.

i couldn't get my plastic roots off either. so i just injected some ca into the small space and hope it's all good. probly if i run my woodies i'll use my 13t pinion to slow the head speed some.
