How many of you charge your lipos at more than 1c and what is your experience?

from my understanding, you should never charge them higher than 1C, unless it tells you its safe... though I would charge at 1C anyway to be on the safe side.

Pack Manf. have been supporting 2C charge rates if the charge is balanced. Your results may vary.

I charge my packs at 1.2 to 1.4C.

With my CellPros, I have them set to 2C and let them do their thing.

I have been wondering this same thing. I plan on buying the new cellpro 10s and it supports 2-3c charging. The site does not state if this is just for their batteries or if it is safe with all batteries. I would really like to know as my hurricane will be draining two packs at a time and being able to charge 2 packs in thirty minutes would be great.

I'm doing an informal test on a pair of AirThunder 3S packs.. One packs gets the 80% discharge/1C charge treatment and the other gets flown until the heli won't hover anymore and get charged at 2C. I've seen no ill effects from the abused pack.

As for acceptable charge rates, consult the pack's manufacturer.

I charge at just under 2c with my flight powers and thunder powers all the time using the 1010 charger and 205 balancer. Been doing it since the 1010 came out. Once in a while I'll give them a 1c charge. 5300 packs at 10amps.

I dont even remember charging at 1 C. It has been that long. All of the TP packs since prolites and the EVO 20s, I have charged at 2C or more.

Wildflyer,
I charge Lipos at Thunder Power recomended rates:
730 mAh : Charge below 730 mA
860 mAh : Charge below 860 mA
1320 mAh : Charge below 1.32 Amps
1900 mAh : Charge below 1.9 Amps
2100 mAh : Charge below 2.1 Amps
Never had a problem and battery is allways cool to the touch.
If the battery feels Hot or the pack ever puffs DO NOT CHARGE!

Do a search on rcgroups in the battery forum and ck out Charlie Wangs posts, he represented Thunder Power, VP or something. Anyway he tested the effects on 2c charging and over hundreds of cycles, came to the conclusion there was no ill effects charging at 2c. Did 3c charging also, but you don't save much time at 3c over 2c. Good info straight from Thunder Power.

If you don't feel comfortable at 2c, don't do it.

I've noticed the balancers seem to work harder at a 1c charge then they do at 2c and the balance results are pretty much the same. I've even found the batteries come out pretty closely balanced without a balancer, assuming a healthy battery. I've had several large packs over the last 3 years, all of them have reached 150 cycles, some over 200 and still going though they are getting tired. Just my experiences.

I set my Cellpro 4S charger to 2C and let it get on with it.

i charge as fast as my charger can charge. 10s 5A packs at 7A, my 6s 5A packs at 8A, and things like my 2170s and 2500s at 5A and the really small 350 cells at around 1A

however, you MUST use a balancer, no question!

I charge my packs 2C on field and 1C at home. My packs are 2C capable as specified by manufacturer.

Hey Skiddz,

I use FlightPower 5000's that I got from Duralite and I ALWAYS charge them at MAX, which is 1.7C. I've yet to see any ill effects and my packs have done quite a lot of cycles.

Cheers,

Richard
