Discloser(sp) first... :) HF - I'm not trying to advertise this product, I just came across it in a heli mag and decided to share the information with others. :)
Here is the website:
Seems like a pretty decent product for those of us who are not electronically inclined. :D

It was cool seeing an article in the magazine on the Jewel right next to Bobby Watts with his new Bandit! Guess I'm gonna be famous now eh? :)
By the way, the website link is:

Pretty great product. I have a gasser coming with one already installed. I dont know why someone has not made one for a nitro yet.

I bought a generator from Rbort about 2 years ago and I must say it's the best money I spent on my gasser. Fly all you want without charging the onboard battery:banana
I also use a gem2000 setup at 5.2v so as long as the bright light is flashing fast I know it's charging.

Yes there seems to be a nitro one on the market already. One of the cool things about the generator in a gasser is that I cannot begin to imagine someone using an electric starter on those birds (they fire on first recoil pull every time!) so the "starter" shaft is very convenient to drive the generator. This shaft in fact seems to be purpose-built for a generator!
Nitro helis, OTOH, do need the electric starting so they need other means of driving the generator. The ones I have seen are driven off the main gear (which in principle will deteriorate a bit autorotation performance but this is more than offset IMO by the convenience of having a generator on a nitro heli).
I started looking into this back when I had a Raptor 50 but I ended up selling that heli before any significant progress was made.
