are govs just for nitro? i think i've seen/read about people using a gov on their electric setup. i can't seem to find a place that has all of the answers i'm looking for. so let's pretend i'm a complete moron. what does a gov do? what benefit/s does it have. is there any cons to counter the pros?

As I understand it, governors are important for nitro birds to eliminate over-revving of the engine; many people set them up strictly as limiters. Over-revving is typically not an issue with electric motors and I don't think they're really needed for an electric bird, especially a mini. I don't use one and I get along just fine.

Some people use them, some people don't.

But you have to have an ESC that has a usable gov mode. Kontronik Jazz is considered the best. Castle Creations Phoenix 35 with late firmware (1.54 or later) also works well.

Most others pulse the motor and will cause tail wag.

i'm using the phoenix 60, and just got my castle link from readyheli last night. pain in the ass to install it, as soon as i installed the disc and plugged it in, it said there were updates available. so i did the update, and it still says version 3.0 when it should be 3.1 now. i did the update twice and still no dice. oh well. the reason i was asking about the gov is that i could not figure out last night what to set it at, or whether to set it. so i set the esc to fixed throttle endpoints (non gov i believe). so it's there if i ever want to try it, but at my skill level i don't think i'd benefit right now.
