Hello guys,

First I'd like to say thanks for all the helpfull information on the 14mz. I just purchased mine a few weeks ago and I am setting it up on with a Rev Max. I have heard that the ATV values will be a lot different from the 9z and that the Rev Max will only work in certain channels. I have mine currently setup in channel 12 (Aux1) and I have been able to get it to initialize properly.

Please let me know what you did to get the Rev Max working on your setups and what ATV values you are using for an 8:45 gear ratio.

Thanx

Well I finally got a chance to go out and fly with this new setup. I was able to get the Rev Max working without any issues. I am using an ATV of 73 in idle up 1 and 2 for a head speed of about 1820.

With my 9z, I had the ATV at about 51 to get a similar headspeed.

Thanks for the info Led. Not many people running the Rev Max yet. What do you think of it compared to other brand governors?

I have GV-1's and TJ pros and I think the Rev Max concept works best for me. I have noticed the difference in the feel of the machine in the midrange area because at that point you are using the throttle curve and not the governor or headspeed limiter in the case of the Rev Max. I run a 100% throttle curve in idle up 2 and as long as the engine is tuned correctly, I get awesome performance. The Rev Max handles the engine overspeed and the result is a much more lively machine.

I would highly recommend you NOT run a 100% throttle curve. It really defeats the whole purpose of running the Revmax. Also, If the device fails, you have an engine running at full bore. I would use the revmax for what it is designed for, or take it off and run a true governor like a GV-1 or a Revlock. The whole purpose of running the Revmax is so you have the freedom to set the throttle curves wher you need them, without having to worry about over speading.

I agree about the risks of using a 100% throttle curve but that is the way that most of the pros are using the Rev Max including Alan Szabo Jr. There was also an article in Model Helicopter World a few months ago about the Rev Max and that was also their recommendation.

The recommended setup is:

Normal - Linear curve
Idle 1 - V curve (use this for doing autos or if the device fails)
Idle 2 - 100% throttle

The 100% throttle setting is only for those who want to get the maximum performance from the Rev Max but there are risks in running it that way. I think you will very quickly know if the sensor or device has failed by the tone of the engine and can switch to Normal or Idle up 1. You should go into Idle 1 when you are doing autos to make sure that if you have to bail from the auto, the engine will not come back on at full throttle.

As I mentioned above, those settings are for best performance of the Rev Max but you will also get good results using throttle mixing but not optimal results.

The choice is yours.
