View Full Version : MX tail lowering my RPMs

The tail has some issue where if I apply right rudder, the rpm's drop slightly...Is this a common issue on the hmx450 tail? Anyone have same problems?

Just put in some TrueBlood red dampeners....All I can say is that the blades are tracking super nice!!!!

sorry I don't have any experience with the MX450 tail. however my mx400 seems fine

I hope this ends up being something simple for you to fix :-)

easy things to check:
-sure your not lowering the throttle stick a little:nanabobo?
-pots in your radio ok? (does the 9chp have an "output view" screen?)

ok more likely
do you have enough RPM to begin with?
try raising the points in your throttle cure up 10 points (except low throttle so you can still arm the ESC)
if that helps ... then keep reading .... but for some people it may be normal to have the ESC running at more than 85% durring hover

harder to check: (I wrote this first)
right rudder stick for most people turns the nose to the right... this would cause the tail rotor to fight against the torque more ... causing more load than turning to the left

However in either direction you should not see a notable spin down or loading.

I would think there may be a power problem in your config ...
too much resistance in the gears or belt (check pinion mesh and belt tension)
battery, ESC, motor, or wiring/connectors not up to the load of your setup

good luck

when you add tail pitch, there is more load on the motor and hence more load on the rotor, from drag i believe. mine does the same thing, bogs a bit under a hard piro. raise up your throttle curve should take care of it.

Well, the rpm's drop slightly...enough to see it on the gears..(the gear slows down a little and you can see the rpms lower, but there is no binding.) I will go outside later and test this all in a hover. I have recently rebuilt the tail and I thought I may have messed something up....I had to readjust the gyro settings and center the tail servo but thats about it. so the general consensus is that if the heli drops when I turn it, then the RPM issue is not too good...or am I missing something and the heli will "dip" no matter what?

Sounds to me like you've got the t/r belt way too tight.

Yep. It was on there pretty darn tight....I repaired it a while ago and now its all working perfect!

I blew a main gear while in flight the other day though....!!! I was about 10-15 sec into my first nose in flight and I heard the grinding sound of a broken tooth! I hit Throttle hold and it went down from about 15 feet nice and slooooooow....My first auto ever!!!! I haven't even auto'ed on the sim!
