I was able to acquire a Bergen Helicopter over the weekend from one of our local club members. He is a 3d guy and thought the Intrepid would be a helicopter he would like to have. The helicopter has 1 Gallon of Camper Fuel run through her and all parts where new to the project. The owner is amazing at setting up these complicated little flyers! We are going to set up my Jr 9303 2.4 over the weekend with the help of Brett from CopterViews.
Specs
Futaba 9351 Servos on Cyclic, Elevator, Aileron, Pitch and Throttle
G26PUH Hanson Modified 3d Max
710 V Blades, 105 SAB Tail Blades
Radix Super Stub's Paddles
I've only been flying Helicopter for around 4 months but I'm hooked for life! Looking forward to adding a custom canopy and anything else you guy's suggest:thumbup:

Captainclunk, welcome to the family. That's a nice looking heli! I have been flying only several months now and have become hooked myself. You have come to the righ place if you have any questions regarding your heli. There are a lot of experts here, excluding myself, who would be more than happy to answer any questions that may come about. Again, enjoy, welcome and have a great weekend!

First Question:lol:
I don't see any intrepids running mufflers like the one on my heli. Is the Unobtainium muffler the best choice? I going to paint the orange muffler matt black and get a new custom painted canopy and 3d fins for her this week.
I'm also adding the ZRC insulator as soon as I get my hands on a missing teflon Gasket:(

Shhhhh...don't say "camper fuel"...Chris might hear you;)
Cool that you've got Brett around to help you out. Have you gotten to fly 'er yet? You're gonna love it! Welcome:smokin:
I don't know which muffler you've got on there. I'm running the Bergen muffler on mine. The exhaust note is much reduced over stock. If yours is louder than you like, you migh consider switching in the future.

Brett is amazing to have around as he is well versed on this Heli stuff and now flying F3C!
Always nice to have someone around to help the new guy out with all the Heli related question I've had in the last 4 months. Building/maintaining a Heli is cake. Proper setup and TX setup is another story.
I have not had a chance to fly the heli as I'm still in Northern Ontario and all my heli toys are in SC. I'm not sure what muffler that is but I'm not worried the db rating on it.
Can't wait to get her in the air next weekend once I get all those wires bound with Tech Flex and general cleaned up,

Welcome aboard and very nice looking bird. Chris and company are always ready to help out and feel free to post and learn here. There are some to keep a grain of salt ready, but for the most part all good stuff and lots of fun.
I like 87 octane and Blue Marble Oil with both needles generally at 1 3/8 out
Load the 260 where the 2 stroking starts at liftoff and have fun :-)

Welcome to the Bergen family, your gonna love it! That muffler you have I believe is a muffler that comes with the stock or possibly an up grade minature gasser. In the early days this was about the only muffler available besides the one that comes from zenoha. It works well and is tucked away behind so it was out of the way. some people still like them, they are alot quieter than stock. Good luck!!

You might find that changing mufflers to the Bergen Muffler will get you some more power...the muffler that you have on it is from the days of the G23 and is most likely restricting the TRUE power you should see running the Hanson 3D Max motor...that motor needs to breathe to put out its best power...
One of the other things you might want to take a look at is your gear ratio...the stock G26 doesn't really like to turn more than around 11K...THE 3D Max doesn't even begin getting into it's sweet spot until mid to hi 12K...you should be running a 13T pinion with the 3D Max...That will bring you a 1750 head speed with the motor running around 12,100 and 1800 head speed would turn the 3D Max at 12,450...which would put you right in the sweet spot...
Don't get me wrong...the gasser most likely has good power with the installed muffler...but if you want the MAX power from that motor...I would change out that muffler to the Bergen muffler...

The muffler looks like it is off the g23 / vario benzine. You have the choice of the Century Muffler or one from Bergen. Century is one I am using and is quieter than the stock. The obtainium is noted to be quieter. Nice machine..
Be sure to get a carb spacer if there is not one on it.. Saves aggrevation.

Depending on how old the muffler is, it MAY be the correct one for the G26. I've never seen one painted red before, but what the hey... It is either from MA or directly from Zimmerman.
I have some spare gaskets for the aluminum insulator blocks if you need one, N/C, to get you up and flying.

Sorry for the late reply. I just drove 1300 miles in two days. The weather in SC is great for helicopter flying!
Chris,
I put in an order today for a new Canopy, Tail grips and vert/Horizontal 3d fins for my new bird. I will call you on that Teflon insulator offer as I have a new one sitting around that is itching to get carbside of Intrepid:thumbup:
I just picked up the Intrepid and will get her up to my standard before Sunday's set up and test flight with Brett Horton at the Heli field!
Anyone else dream about helicopters:roll:

Bob,
where are you from in Canada? Looking to hook up with some folks back home for some flying this summer?
Thank you for the info,

I bought the Bergen muffler when I got my gasser eb, but for $200 it doesn't look like much it did sound good bught started to leak after about 3 tanks, where the header is welded to the pipe. The Century Torpedo v-3 sounds good but the cannpoy is going to need to trimed it's $135. I just rtecently bought the Hatori Spectra G muffler and it sounds great and looks great but it was $245 just somrthing to think about
