Just wondering if I was going to charge my lipos at the field, is the best approach to use a mobile power inverter, plug that in the cig. lighter and then plug say my BC-6 charger in that? I have a new 2008 suv, wondering if it effects your car battery? do have to keep your car running when charging? Or is just better to lug a spare boat battery and just charge it direct to that?
or maybe buy more batteries......

It depends on what size packs you are charging. I would not use an inverter, but go direct to 12VDC.
Car batteries are not designed for deep discharge, doing so will significanlty shorten the battery life.
Over dishcarging your car battery, also means you will be wlaking home. NOT good.
Get a separate deep cycle battery for charging.

The inverter will just increase the current drain from the battery due to its less than 100% efficency (and possibly the additional AC/DC within the charger). What LIPO are you using (number of cells and capacity)? I had no problem charging few 3S 2100h at the field from my car's battery (12VDC direct to the charger).

Thanks for the help, I tried it yesterday with a few packs for my trex 450, just 3s 2100 packs no problem. The back of the suv has a 12 v source, I'm going to try leaving the suv shut off while charging next time, I don't think it will be a problem
