8.45 gearing
Hatori pipe, not sure which one, but it is an FH with the silicone isolators
Magnum 30%
OS #8 plug

Problem I am having is that it sounds terrible, if I get it any where close to lean enough. The noise that sounds like something is loose inside the engine, which I often attribute to detonation. Most of the time I hear it when the engine is a bit lean without enough load on it. I can make it rich enough to not ping, but the throttle response is terrible and there is enough smoke to make the fire department raise an eyebrow.

If it makes a diference, it was about 38º today.

Is the gear ratio not high enough to load the engine correctly? Do I need a cooler plug? Am I just not getting the mixture right?

I am a tad frustrated. The good news is when I get a heli running right, then I crash. :arggg::rolling

Thanks
Ivan

Sounds like a bad bearing, risp pin or lower rod bushing, this is just a guess
