View Full Version : My first Logo crash(es)

Well the inevitable happened and the Logo 500 went in today - I've had about 30 flights on the L500 and L600 each and dreaded the day when one would pile in - had a BAD feeling about those frames and was sure they wouldn't survive a smack. Anyway pulled out of a piro nose dive too late struck the skids and bounced onto the head - anyway feared the worst but to my amazement and delight skids and frame saved by the nylon bolts (thanks Ticidy :noteworthy) - damage confined to bent flybar, broken seesaw bolt (plastic) and few bent links - broken blades of course - anyway had enough in the spares box to fix it up and she's good to go.
Always been superstitious about flying after a crash but the weather's been so bad this week that had to take the L600 out - been making real progress with inverted flight and the L600 so stable and powerful to punch out inverted. Anyway horror of horrors got too low and disorentiated and she smacked in hard inverted - haven't had the heart to do a through post mortem but at least the lipo and frames intact - have to put the T600N 2nd build on hold!
PS: 600 damage not so bad !! - Main shaft snapped in half  - flybar bent into a ? - wrecked big balls and spacers - bent M3 main grip bolts - bent swash arm (straightened already) - few plastic ball links broken - buggered top shaft bearing - other than that the plastic U/C M3 bolts again saved the frames and gear ! - stripped 6965 gears on elevator and that's about it - apart from the Radix's that is :bawl
My commiserations - but thanks for the report. It's nice to know that it can take a beating without complete destruction.

Wow John, sorry to see that! I'm dreading the day that happens for me as well. Glad to know the damage was less than initially expected.

Sorry for your loss! Guess it's back to T-Rex 600s for a bit...
I'd love to see photos of the two ends of where the shaft broke. That's got to be interesting!

Yeah that was Coolum (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=mercuriell&filename=Coolum water clip.wmv) - ironic thing been flying all in week in rain and wind up to 40kts with no crashes and then and first decent day .... :arggg:
May well go to Coolum this w/e

Well you can abuse a T600 (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=mercuriell&filename=T600 water fun.wmv)in ways you'd never dream doing with a Logo ....
Well the 500 is fixed up already - only took an ali seesaw bolt, a T600 flybar, main gear and straightening out some bent links.
On the 600 I've straightened the bent swash arm, changed the top bearing and just need some 4mm ID ali tube to make up a flybar ball link spacer (not that you guys would know anything about flybars :) ). Biggest job getting grass out of tears in the canopy and fixing it! Metal temper quite different from the TREX - the flybar and ball link rods (and swash) are quite malleable and the shaft and flybar hard.
I'd love to see photos of the two ends of where the shaft broke. That's got to be interesting!
I had a feeling someone might ask about the shaft so here's a pic:

MAN that blows John, 2 birds in one day is harsh! For what its worth at least they went in on grass, we have to deal with black top out here. No soft fluffy grass for us! Those pesky little flybars!
I'm glad the nylon bolt trick helped save a little damage for sure.
Curious how bad the 600 canopy is? With the $75 msrp on those it may be worth a repair job ?

The tail let go early this morning on 599, I had to auto into the sun. Fortunately a bad auto only resulted in a broken skid bow and one bent ball on the swash. Kudos to plastic skid bolts. The belt jumped off the tail pully during a hard piro. Tension was good but added a third bearing to idler, photo above in setup. Flew again this afternoon and everthing is working great.
PS, I wiped out my Trex 600 yesterday, flew it into the ground doing a backwards loop. The plastic skid bolts did not help in this instance.

Canopy DEFINITELY gonna get repaired - a couple of tears around the mast collar and some blunt trauma under the nose - at least GF is fixable - fastest way I know to pile into the ground is to put a new canopy on a heli!
(John sorry about your T600 - lucky escape on the 599  - what was the tail problem ? - I had a series of tail escapes lasting a few secs due to a faulty R/C lipo causing the 611 to reset - DX7 didn't get anywhere near browning out)

Wow, thats actually not that bad imo. That one looks like it can be fixed without too much trouble. For sure it will fly again.
I had some tail pulley issues as well. I will start a new thread about my findings.

John,
The belt rode up over the pully flange and onto the shaft, the idler ( 2-3 X 8 bearings) may have been too narrow, it's wide enough now (3-3 x 8 bearings. The belt tension was good, must have been a The "Chuck Norris" piro.
Forgot to mention the pully is the new anti-static #3046.

Just 5 days - about 4 hours and both Logos back in the air - only a few fillets of resin on the L600 canopy cracks to show for the misdeeds - what I'm really happy about is the way they both flew, as new, none of that funny quirkiness or incipient instability that bugs a lot of helis after repair of a major smack! Without a doubt the L600 is THE most pleasurable heli I have been fortunate enough to fly !!

Awesome dedication, 2 full rebuilds in under a week, gotta love these logo's. Sun's finally come out today john so coolum will start to dry and that funfly will be back on soon enough. Got my new Xcell Gasser ready for its first flight today, looking forward to cruising round the sky for 20 minutes before grabing a logo and tearing holes in it for 5!

 Yeah i know, never been in the air longer than five minutes but this is my revenge to those nitro's that fly for 10.
