A glow driver that lasts over a year, possible, practicle and well worth the money....

I have been using the Rcats glow driver for a couple of months now and it is fantastic. The Rcats glow is a smart glow driver with the ability to provide up to 5amps, but starts at a slow inrush of current which may help to lengthen plug life. The Rcats glow also has an automatic time out after 45sec. The unit comes in a sealed bluish/purple case along with a dedicated charger. You can choose a long plug end or the short one,,,I opted for the long just in case. Initial charge took about six hours and from there it is good to go for an expected 1 year or better between charges. The system has cell balancing and safety circuitry built in for added benefit. To use the unit simply connect to your glow push the button and you are good to go. The meter will give you a general idea of the condition of your plug and the fuel mixture with the metering that occurs when starting... Rcats is also now offering rubberized gloves to protect and personalize your glow.

You can purchase the Rcats Glow directly or currently at Central Hobbies.

www.rcatsystems.com or www.centralhobbies.com

The Rcats Glow is priced at 99.95 and for this price offers significant value for the dollar amount...

this is what I get when I click on it to order:

Lithium Glow Drivers (4/19/05 update), posted on 14 Apr
All lithium glow driver shipments are on hold until further notice. Due to some unexplained failures that are tied to manufacturing, we would like to ensure that these issues are solved before shipping any further units. We apologize for the inconvenience.

We will be contacting those that have drivers on order to discuss the status of their order

and on the centralhobbies site I cant find the option for long or short plug connector.

Hi All,

Charles gave me a call in reference to the glow driver, so I thought I'd post some notes.

Shipments were stopped due to the misplacement of a component on the board during manufacturing on the second run of units. This issue has been corrected and we'll be filling current backorders this week. None of the glow drivers from initial shipments had this issue.

FYI - At this time, Central hobbies is only carrying the short clip.

Looks like a nice unit. I charge my Duralite Glow Igniter once every couple of months or so. Going all year would be HOT!!

Thanks for the writeup Charles. Looks like this is a very well supported product Michael.

This unit hasn't been available for a while now, is the issue not resolved yet? I've been waiting for it since I saw it at the flying field at the beginning of this flying season.

Hi,

The issues were resolved with the glowdrivers back in May. The units have been available direct from us on a limited basis for those that have called and put themselves on a waiting list.

The biggest problem is that I misjudged demand for the product and have been behind the demand curve ever since we had the manufacturing issue. The current issue is that our builder is not delivering sufficient numbers as promised to us. I am in the process of dealing with this at the moment. Add this to the fact that we are working on several large projects and just returned from supporting customers at the Reno Air Races. Basically, things are a little backed up.

I don't know if Central Hobbies currently has any drivers in stock, but you might check with them if you haven't already.

Just wanted to give everyone an update. My Rcats driver has now been in use for 1 year 4 months and is still going on the first charge. I am going to go until it is dead before charging just so we will know how long it can make it on a charge.
