Hi All,
Another thread on this forum mentioned using a Triton charger to charge the receiver pack. I was wondering how many people use something other than a duralite charger and if so, what current rate do you charge at. Is there any problem with using say a Triton or Astro 109?

Jeff,
There is really not a problem using a Triton or some other charger that is setup for Lithium technology.
Now with that being said, the warranty on the pack is only honored when a Duralite charger is being used.
I know some people have used the Triton charger with no problems, a few have had problems. Do a search here on Helifreak and you will find a thread started by Shannon Davis where he had problems trying to use a charger other than Duralite.

With how long the packs last on a charge, I never need to quick charge. I put my helis and TX's on my Duralite charger about once every couple weeks whether they need it or not.

Thanks David,
I had heard of people having problems in the past.
I thought the higher charging current rates may cause problems with the installed protection devices of the pack

Jeff,
Don't think the higher charging current will cause a problem with the protection devices. That is what that protection device is there for. It is to keep the batteries from being abused while being charged. If there is too much current, or the wrong voltage. The protection device will shut down and not let the battery receive the charge.
Using like a Triton for example, you really can not set it up to fast charge the pack. The safe charge circuit in the battery will only allow a certain amperage to enter the pack. Also the Lithium setup on the Triton I believe will not allow the amperage to be adjusted more than the circuit will allow.

I would be afraid to use the Astroflight 109. The Protection circuit would get a workout with the high voltage pulsing.
