Hi Everybody,

Have most of the stuff to convert my R50 to Electric, but I am not sure about whether to run a UBEC or a Duralite Pack for the RX. This is my first non-micro Electric machine.

What is you guys experience with the UBEC? Where is the best place to buy them if your choice is the UBEC?

Thank you in advance,

I've always used a UBEC in my e-helis. They usually come in regular and hi-voltage flavours. The only down side is for the case when the main pack blows up totally (never happened to me) then you lose auto capabilities. The up side is never having to charge an Rx pack again, and the weight savings.

You can buy them here

I only have an eRaptor50 and a T-Rex. Both have BEC's.
THe rex has a built into the ESC type, and the Raptor has a hi voltage UBEC seperate to the ESC.

This link is to a discussion on the merits on BEC/ESC combo

Hi Will,

I like my UBECs, I have tried seperat RX packs and I don’t like them. Sense you have to charge your flight power packs every flight they may as well power your radio so you don’t have to mess with monitoring a separate battery :glasses2:

Guys.... YOU are correct, I am HOOKED!! I had the best flighs of my life today. Man do I ever LOVE this machine. I LOVE the simplicity of just taking a charged pack to the heli and going to the flightline and flying a super quiet and powerful machine. I need to seriously chow a bunch of weight off this machine though. The 4000mah Duralite pack and all. ;)

Damn what a fun time. Thank you H to the C (who insisted on making it fly once he saw I had the conversion kit from TPPacks.com) HC built the BOX and programmed the radol and John Garst patiently soldered all teh connectors and programmed the charger and taught me how to myself. Literally all I had to do was remove the OS 50 Hyper/MP2 and degrease the hell out of the chopper while installing the R30 Main Gear. You guys ROCK HC and John!!

I can now fly any day I want at our local field. ;) Gotta LOVE that!!

What controller do you use? You could have bought a Jazz 80 A controller too, it has a 4 A switched BEC.

Using a Jeti/Hacker 77 - O Heli controller.

Hey Will,

I am excited to see that baby fly. I really would like to convert a Gohbee Stinger to electric. I think it would be a good project !!!
