View Full Version : Phoenix SIM Acromaster
I am running the Phoenix flight sim on a MacBook Pro and loving it! I purchased it to learn to fly the T-Rex 450, or at least shorten the learning curve and reduce the amount of crashes of the real heli.
In playing with the sim, I have found that I really like the flying of the electric Acromaster 3D plane. I have never flown any rc plane and wonder if anybody has a recommendation for an electric plane which flies somewhat the same. I find the plane is very easy to fly 3d on the sim and would like something like it in real life.
I really like the sim and feel that I am almost ready to try the real T-Rex!

Why not get an Multiplex Acromaster, it should fly just like the Multiplex Acromaster in the sim. :)
Thanks, I did not realize this was a real plane, thanks! I guess I should have googled first.

For first plane you may want an easier to fly plane. For example Multiplex EazyStar (3 ch, highly recommended for begineers) or MiniMag (4 ch, high wing trainer). Later you can move to a 3D plane such as AcroMaster, EFlite Extra 260, etc (there are tons of them). They are great backup for the times that your heli is broke ;-)

Pinecone, you are TOO funny.:rolling

I can't even fly the easystar on the sim - it's so unresponsive I plant the thing.

EazyStar is a three channel plane. You control the throttle, elevator and rudder (no ailerons). Typically you map the elevator and rudder to one stick (e.g. right) and the throtle to the second stick. Relatively speaking, the real EazyStar is an easy to fly plane so if it does not fly well on the simulator, blame yourself, Phoenix and Multiplex in that order ;-)

Jhat, Funnily enough dude, I was just the same. Bought Phoenix to run on my MacBook Pro to learn to fly the TRex 450 SE V2 I was getting myself for Christmas. Really liked the Acromaster on the sim, so I bought that as well. Never flown a plank until a couple of weeks ago and its a gas. In reality it's a lot more scarey with a real plane than on the sim. It's your plane up there and you really don't want to go home without it. So although in the sim I can confidently knife-edge it past me 6" off the ground, in reality I'm nervous as hell just doing circuits. Still it seems just like the sim, wind effect is maybe more dramatic and the sim doesn't support the flaps. I've tried them at height and they seem to stop it dead but haven't had the balls to land it with them at 100%, I'll try it this weekend, weather permitting.

I have Phoenix also, it's perfect for Helis but I heard it's bad for planes. I would like to buy Acromaster also, I don't want to buy trainer cos I will be bored soon. Anyway, can any1 compare Acromaster in Phoenix and real one ? I can land with AM in Phoenix right to my legs, I don't think I would be able to do it in real.
Thanx

I don't think Phoenix is bad for planks, it is just that the physics are reported as not as finely tuned as for helis.
And I am not really sure that is even true.

Like I say, yes you can. I haven't flown planks before but where I fly I have to land it in a few square yards. The wind has more of an effect in real life, plane jumps up and down more in gusts but it handles like the sim and it's aerobatics are crazy, I'm just worried I'll tear it wings off.

I totally agree with Pugwash planks balloon with the slightest gust especially if they are on tickover or "dead stick" Sims just dont reproduce this but as far as the handling in general they are pretty bang except maybe a bit to good at tip stalling.
Cheers
Glenn
The Tip stall can be adjusted from 0 to loads, Go into edit and look for 'Wing rock tendency', increase or reduce this number.
