Well our local plankers are going to have to show more respect now, I was nominated and unopposed for club president. yay!
Okay, celebration over, I would like input from others on locally promoting our club. What do/did you do to attract new blood? We are on land owned by the former president, and pretty secure with the land use.
We used to do a scout day, and had the kids come out for a pull on the sticks, but this was also 15 odd years ago when we were all young enough to have kids/ nieces or nephews in scouts.
Is there a 'best' way to approach the locals without appearing for lack of a better word; "Off"?
There's a substantial number of displaced pilots in the area as several clubs have lost their land use, but no apparent organized method to contact them.
One local HobbyTown is not very R/C friendly either, but it's all we have.
FWIW: Our current membership stands at 16 or so, with about half flying helis. :bad

Wow and I thought my club was small with around 55 members...

You could make up some flyers etc and post them around town in stores/shops, see if the LHS will at least let you put up a flyer. Maybe a small newspaper ad if you have a fly-in or something. Every year in September we have a fly in and it's really geared towards the family, there is food, lots of kids games unrelated to RC, we have an airplane drop a load of candy then let the kids run and pick it up(after the plane's landed of course).

The idea is to get people through the door and see the club. We almost always end up with 2 or 3 new members on the spot after the fly in is over.

Once upon a LONG time ago, we had 200 members. Lost a field, lost another, then ended up where we are now. The interest is still there, people still have equipment. They are just all disconnected.

It's funny because the club I belong to has a long-term field provided by the city but only about a dozen members, only one of which flies helis (me). The field is not easy to get to and is not well-known (I stumbled across mention of it when I checked the city ordinances regarding model aircraft in city parks), so the membership doesn't fluctuate much.

So I'm assuming ~15 of the members couldn't make the meeting that voted you in?

Congrats again MR President!

I am in the process of putting together a press release that I will send to the guys here at the local paper.
Hopefully that will generate some interest and I am attempting to get them out to the field prior to our 1st event.

See ya Saturday!

Nice to see a VP hard at it. ;)
Of course it helps if you only have to stick your head out the door and hand it off to someone passing huh?

Yeah... I wish... just because I work at corporate doesn't mean The Chronicle will actually do anything. This is AUGUSTA afterall.

Two things I did was to make a flyer and got it posted at the local Hobbytown, and its in the approval process at the local Board of Education to be posted in the local schools. Got three members from the Hobbytown so far though and thats only one winter. FWIW- our membership stands at 10 now, all of us being heli flyers.
BTW- Congrats Wayne!!

I actually dropped off a newsletter and flyer at the hobbytown yesterday.
I've got to go out on base and see about posting a few with the recreation folks, and the schools is not a bad idea, having kids in them makes it a bit easier. :)
There's an area that we decided was unsuitable a few years ago that people are flying smaller stuff and park flyers, I intend to do a drive by and bust off a flight with a nitro chopper, that may get some more interest.
