View Full Version : Why pre-flights are important

I guess I should say systematic pre-flight checks. I came in with my JR AirSkipper from a good tankful of hovering practice. I refueled my tank. I checked my battery voltage turned on my TX and plugged in my Glow Starter and started the heli up. BAD IDEA! The one thing I forgot to do was check that my servo's were working correctly. I would have noticed that my heli was not turned on. SO, when it started up I was panicked and completely forgot that I could unplug the fuel line. I was holding the blades when starting it up so I just held them until the motor stalled. Well, I just replaced the clutch bell lining and I'm waiting for the glue to set. I'll have it together tomorrow.
I don't know how many have done this but it could have been alot worse if the throttle was turned up. I don't even want to think about that.
My instructor was there, but did not supervise me starting up this time assuming I was fine with it. To be honest I should have been but I had a brain fart. Luckily this one didn't cost me anything.

Wow,
glad you had your hand on it! I use the Fromeco pull pin. I always start up the Skippy in the same sequence.

Only been flying for 4 months but will never forget how dangerous these little machines are!

Take care fellow Canadian,
P

I'm thinking I may get a Fromeco pull pin, Jeff has one on his TT 90. would be worth the money. Quite the commute you've got going on there. Between Northern Ontario and South Carolina. Flying down south this time of year must be great.

Flying in South Carolina in winter is great! I just purchased a Vibe 90 and can't wait to get her in the air in a couple of weeks. You will not regret the Fromeco pin switch. I use it along with Fromeco Batteries and Arizona reg and will never look back. I have them in everything I fly:)

The Commute from Sudbury to SC in not all that bad. I hate Airports and would rather drive the 1900km

Take care,
P
