Yeah but their shipping costs are outrageous. I went to buy one (actually two) of these and they wanted $50+ to ship to the UK. Cheaper to buy the Gaui FG canopy.

i noticed that too the other day when i tried to order a couple, but the shipping option is clearly wrong as there's no way that the canopy needs a shipping option of 4.8lbs for 1 or 8.8lbs for 2
i've submitted a ticket to helidirect and i'll let you know what they say :)

Phil,
Great to hear from you. Yes, you are correct: the canopy does not weigh 4.8 lbs, but we put that weight in due to the size and shape of the box, which determines shipping costs just as much as weight. In order to pack correctly and ensure the canopy arrives safely, we must use a big box, so this is where the cost comes in. Hope that helps.
If there is anything else I can do for you, please let me know - I would be more than happy to help.
Thanks for contacting Heli Direct!
Happy New Year and God Bless
Larry

i still think that the price is excessive as i've had other things that have similar dimensions, and more weight shipped usps international priority for less than they are asking?
if i find another source with sensible shipping do you want to split an order?

Has anyone got a 550 and a Trex 600 ? I've often wondered if the 600 canopy would fit - probably a bit big. I tried my 3DX-500 canopy on my 550 and it fits very well - the only down-side is that you aren't able to fit any batteries with it fitted :thumbdown:

Hi!
I think I saw a rex600 canopy on an Hurricane. But there was rebuilding needed to make this possible. What I remember there was a lot more space for batteries. But was quit hard make it fit...

Phil sure... I tried these guys also http://www.ka-planes.com/inc/sdetail/2335 but despite what the shopping cart checkout suggests there is no option to select your country so you can get the shipping price to the UK.
The other option is I get a couple shipped to my brothers place in California... he'll be heading over at the end of next week or (failing that) I'll be out there end of Jan skiing so I can bring them back. pm me if you want me to look into this and I'll line something up.
I cannot believe that there is no Funkey canopy dealer here in Europe....
EDIT: check your pm Phil

I wanted something else myself and couldn't find it. So I made a plug and a mold and here it is complete with a paint job i'm not too happy with. You may detect my preference for the cleaner lines of the X-Cell style canopy. I made the sides smooth and flat to allow the wires and battery pack easier to deal with and made a little more room for larger packs. It uses the standard Gaui mounting system.

Thanks!
You could make a mold off the outside of a stock canopy and I had thought about that but the urge for something easier to get on and off took over. My stock plastic canopy was falling apart from just normal handling so I needed top do something.

Phil,
It is calculated based on volume of the canopy not the weight.
if you buy two we can put them together to save space and will end up very low in shipping cost.
Please contact us for correct shipping cost before checking out.
We can ask Fusuno to make new canopy for Hurricane 550. What do you want it to look alike?

I'd personally would like to see some real airbrushed canopies like these (http://www.realraptors.co.uk/zen-cart-v1.1.3/index.php?main_page=page_4), or these (http://www.canomod.com/shopping/index.php?cPath=63). The ones I've seen so far are simple two colors with a shiney decal and that that does not do it for me...

Steve,
Just to add another perspective - I'd like a cheapy FG canopy ($10 - $20 ideally), the standard one is not very nice plastic and being a learner I am in danger of trashing my canopy at any stage so don't want to spend mucho $$$$ on an expensive one.
If they are this price I could also try painting one myself as I am keen to try this but not on a $40 canopy.
Oh, and cheap shipping to the UK :lol:
Cheers,
Mike.

Just to follow up on that and other comments about cheap shipping to the UK.
I just ordered two canopies off the Helidirect Ebay web shop. Why is it that shipping to the UK when I order on Ebay is $15? Even a single canopy was the same price (shipping).
Providing better service and 'customer loyalty' benefits - shipping - to Ebay customers than you do to folks who visit your web site (and who are usually repeat purchasers) seems absolutely crazy to me - and also makes me feel that the $50 shipping cost was a ripoff.

Backing up what UKG says, but not wanting to turn this into a Helidirect bashing thread as I have always had very good service.....
I recently bought a Dimension Engineering SportBEC directly from Dimension for my 3DX-500 - cost $29.99 + $1.25 international shipping. The exact same BEC from HD is $29.99 + a minimum of $11.85 shipping - an extra $10.60 - plus if I had bought from HD there are various other bits that I would have bought - your shipping costs are losing you business !!!.
Sorry for going a bit off-topic.
Mike.

Well I managed to convince my friend to make a few carbon fiber and GF canopies for 550.
He is pro carbon scale planes builder (2.60m and up Extras, Caps etc.).
We have made a negative mould and will be making canopies during next few weeks.
I was just wondering how many of you would be interested.
Canopies will be gelcoated, primed and airbrushed in few designs.
I will weight it and take a few shots once we have first one out and will post it here.
I might even convice him to make Trex 600 canopies since I havent found cheap CF full canopy for it.

P.S. Im from Europe BTW. :)

i agree their shipping prices are outrageous. i can understand a couple dollars (like three or four) for handling and packaging but that's nuts. too many companys use shipping and handling charges to make money. it's BS if you ask me. they ought to charge whatever it costs them to ship the parcel, plus a few dollars, no more.

But compare the offer in Ebay and in the Webshop of HD.........few $$ ? Few $$ for work is ok but that difference ....

Don't get me wrong, I've bought other stuff from Helidirect and have been very pleased. This canopy shipping cost thing just ticked me off - especially when I found the ebay shop shipping was perfectly reasonable.
