Well, I'm about to buy my first airplane. Having flown helis for one year now and spending many hours flying the numerous airplanes in Phoenix RC, I'm going to begin with a sport airplane. I can perform many 3D maneuvers on the sport/3D airplanes in Phoenix RC. I'm confident that I will be sucessful starting with my maiden flight because of my solid heli flying skills coupled with many hours flying airplanes in Phoenix RC will lead to my success.

I've had many so-called experts recommend much more beginner-type airplanes, but to be honest, I'm sure I would last about 5 minutes, then I would be bored to death. I even had someone at my LHS recommend the Slo Stick (you've got to be kidding me!). I'm ready to accept the challenge. I also don't like being told that I can't do something...that's the wrong thing to say to me. ;)

Actually, I'm going to buy two sport airplanes...the Multiplex Acromaster and one of the following:

- Great Planes ElectriFly Super Sportster EP ARF 48"
- Great Planes Mini Super Sportster EP ARF 39.5"
- Great Planes ElectriFly Lancair ES EP ARF 43"

Any other suggestions? Don't try to talk me into a beginner airplane. ;) However, I would appreciate some other suggestions regarding sport airplanes.

try the cermark banshee that was my first plane and it will do anything. it is reasonably price and a great flying plane. you will definitely be happy with that one.

the lancair flies like dog poo, wait until you CAN fly before attemting this model.
The sportster series fly great, however they tend to float in ground effect.
The Eflight Mini Ultra stick, and the 25 sized ones will fy as hard as you want, and are pretty tough to boot.
The J3 Cub 25 sized with floats will do pretty good off of snow, but is not an aerobatic show-stopper. Just a lazy day flier.
You may want to look at some of the E models at www.atlantahobby.com as well.

Hi,

I did the same thing :) when you are into helis, planes is REALLY easy.

With one hour or less of sim; you can do everything.

I bought a foam model : PARKZONE Trojan T28; which is nice, fast and great looking.

I bought the pnp version for like 150$ plug and play, only had receiver & 3S lipos.

I now bought a Justgofly motor to get it over 100mph ! FEAR !

The E-Flight Mini-Stick and Mini-Pulse are great sport planes, but not 3D. The Mini-Showtime is a also a great flyer, more pattern than 3D. If you want an e-3D plane try the E-Flight Edge profile. BTW, all of E-Flights planes are underpowered if you use the spec'd motor.

If you want a really good 3D plane, go nitro, and get a Mojo 40. Nice and easy on low rates, but crank it up and look out!! :D

Also for starter planks there are the Multiplex MiniMag and Magister.

I FREAKING LOVE MY T28!!!!!!!

This is such an awesome plane.

139.99 for plane, motor, esc, 2 analog servos, 2 digital servos, 10 minutes assembly time, NO GLUING OR COVERING OR EPOXING OR ANY OF THAT! Just screws and tape, and 10 more minutes to replace the connector with a deans. Threw in an AR6100 and a 2200 DN Power pack from my Mini Titan, and WOOOOSH, away she went!!!!

Had my ailerons wrong when I maidened and landed it in the street upsde down on its canopy :O. Fixed that and haven't had a problem yet. Loops, rolls, knife edges, immelmans, split s', it flies like a warbird. Oh, and replacement canopy, painted, with figure, lexan, foam chunk, mounting magnet, etc was 7 bucks at the LHS hehehe.

Such an awesome plane for the money, fun fun, and so easy to fly. Full aileron and rudder, steerable nose wheel, big looks, power is great with the stock brushless, amazing with upgrades. I can't even say enough.

Awesome tool for relaxing between tense heli flights trying out new moves!

the big banshee is bad ass, i have had 3 these planes take off in 6 ft and land harrier with ease it will hover hands off ,better than a heli on gloomy days.

I've been going through a similar journey and I've landed on 3D Hobby Shop (.com) They have many very highly rated planes that are very well made and will do all sorts of crazy 3Dz. I'm opting for their 47" Aspera as I'm not looking for an all out 3D plane. But if I was, I'd be all over their 47" or 55" Extra 300 SHP.

MultiPlex AcroMaster would be (will be) my first choice for a 3D plank...

Right now I'm having way too much fun with my MultiPlex EasyStar
brushless conversion...

Jurassic 5: which 300 did you get? The 47" or the 55"? I'm thinking maybe in another 6mo or so I might get the 55" 300.

Well, after much research, I think I'm going to start out with the e-Foamies Revolution 3D Trainer. I hear nothing but great things about this airplane and it's made of EPP, which means it can take some abuse. Also, I have several 3S 1350mAh batteries that I can use in this airplane. Of course, I will tame things down on my first few flights, but from what many say, this airplane can be setup as a good trainer all the way up to a hard 3D flyer. I plan on flying the Revolution with my DX7 using an AR6200 Rx. I'm looking forward to my first plank!
