Can I put a 3 cell lipo battery in my 9C without using a regulator. After a fresh charge my nicds show 11.1 volts so I think it will work? Any suggestions please.

Yes you can use a 3 cell lithium pack in your 9C.

I would suggest using Lithium/Ion cells and not Lithium/Polymer.

Fully charged the meter on the 9C should read just over 12 volts. You can use the batteries till the meter reads 10.9 volts before you have to recharge.

Can you tell me why the li-ion cell would be a better choice?

The lithium-ion cells are basically for a slower discharge setup. The lithium polymer cells are for a more higher discharge setup.

Lithium/Ion is cells that have a metal casing around them like convential nicad or nimh batteries.

Lithium/Polymer cells are contained in a foil like pouch.

My opinion the Lithium/Ion cells are little more stable and more durable.

With that being said, either one if mishandled or abused will cause serious problems.
