I bought the Titan, and I'm very happy with it. I even like the Thunder Tiger engine I got with it, although some people hate them.

Well I would suggest you buy a basic kit if you are a newbie. You will have PLENTY of "upgrade opportunities". As a matter of fact I have upgraded helicopter to the point where I was scared to fly them because of the crash cost. That is never a good thing either.

Most any basic 50 kit will put you in to mild 3D... NO PROBLEM.

My first heli was the Raptor Titan and I was pleased with it. Parts are cheap and can be found without much problems. A Raptor can take you from the beginning stages and beyond.

Go with the Titan it is a very good heli. The bigest difference between it and the SE is the metal head block on the SE. You can always upgrade the head later and have a choice of after market upgrades

I agree. Here's a review of the Titan with some build tips http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/article_display.cfm?article_id=836
and of course

I should have linked that when I posted earlier. Best article I've seen on the Titan anywhere.

I highly doubt you'll ever regret the decision to buy a kit and not go ARF. You learn how everything goes together, so when it comes time to take it apart to fix things, you can. I quite enjoyed building mine, finished it over a weekend.

+ 1  you need to know what goes where and how and why so when you wreck you can get back in the air without all the head scratching ;)
