I wondered if it is safe to use high voltage cutoff because I hovered untill it vent into cutoff and it mesured 3.4 v per cell after the flight, but when I charged the pack I put in 4432 mah on a 4600 pack ?

Not really, since cutoff cuts power. And that could cause a crash.
Use a timer and back that up with a lipo alarm.
I use alarms from Elfiernz here on the Freak. PM him.
Not sure for your ESC, but CC allows for "soft-cutoff" - you don't loose all power when you reach the preset limit, but rather you start loosing RPM slowly as you approuch the limit.
Sometime you can notice the lack of power in high throttle about 1-2 minutes before power loss.
And you can always notice lack of power above hover and land within 10-20 secs before power loss.

In a plank, no big deal, think about a low inverted hover and your motor reduces power and starts pulsing. NOT good.
