has anyone else had the problem of the esc causing interference into their gyro? the 401 is mounted on the bottom plate under the cyclic servo's just forward of the main shaft. the ESC is mounted further aft (just about where the boom supports bolt) on the bottom of the bottom plate. during initialization of the esc you can watch the tail rotor bounce back and forth with the sound of the esc. during flight the tail randomly kicks also w/ load changes on the motor.

anyone else had this problem?

I had the same problem, so I trimmed out all of the excess wire by putting on new crimp ends. Was a little bit worried about trimming those up on the 401, but it seems to work much better. Also, try to maximize the spacing between the speed control and gyro, move the gyro as far forward as you can, ie almost even with where the battery tray tongue starts, it will probably help your balance anyways, as I don't stick my battery any deeper than that to get a proper balance. Also move the speed control all the way back.

the esc doesn't make sound, it uses the motor to make the sound. the problem is, the heli is so damn small it vibrates the whole heli on startup. I have the same issue. Don't know that there is really anyway to solve it short of firing up everything with the motor leads unplugged, then plugging them back in. If the tail is randomly kicking, that is possibly static, try lubing the belt with silicone spray or antistatic spray.

You can always re-initialize a 401 by switching between normal and HH three times rather quickly

have you solved the problem?

I solved my issues by changing the tail slider, turns out it had way too much slop.

turns out I still have the problem and it seems to be exactly the problem the OP reported, any solutions yet?

My gyro is on the bottom frame as far as can go forward without messing with the battery. The esc is under the frame lengthwise with the battery wires pointing forward and the motor wires pointing towards the rear, I have it moved as far back as possibly, but the cap at the front of it where the motor battery wieres exit is right under the esc.

Put it on the side. With the wires facing forward they are getting too close to the gyro.

Another solution if you have the time - put a gyro platform above the battery tray at the front...this gets the gyro way away from the motor and ESC.

Is that gyro plattform stable enough? Did it solve your problem?

gyro plate looks interesting. I may have to try that if my problem isn't gone on the next flight.

"Is that gyro plattform stable enough? Did it solve your problem?"

It is defintely an improvement, but it is hard to say if it would solve the problem that this post originally is about because I didn't have a really bad problem to start with. My gyro didn't have a constant glitching problem, my issue was more that for some reason, it would start hunting at very low gains (maybe this is really the same problem?!?), so, I built the tray to give it max distance from the motor and esc. Now I can set the gain much higher with no hunting and the gyro does its job a lot better, so I thought this idea may be of use.

If hunting at low gain or glitching is not an issue, this platform may really not be of much use as it is a bit of a pain to get together.

The platform is pretty stable. I actually made it out of plastic, but it would be better if it was made out of carbon fibre.

I actually can't take credit for thiking of this...a guy in another forum posted a photo and he did the same thing, and that is where the idea came from.

Good luck!

I ordered a new esc to see if it will solve the problem, the one I"m using is kinda big for this heli. I did notice if I move the esc away from under the gyro, the tail servo will not twitch like crazy on startup. Also noticed that in digital mode, it won't do it either. But I did a lot of testing and was definately getting interaction from the esc and gyro.

Here is the best location for the Gyro! (LT2100)
Right under the Mainshaft. On Axis!
In between the motor and ESC.
