I've searched long and hard for an answer on using a fuel filter with the gas Engine? Does anyone use one on the intrepid? Does it cause bubbles? Does my carb filter enough of the gunk not to worry about it? Should I just add a filter to my Jersey?
Input from the long time Bergen guys and girl welcome:thumbup:

Best option to be safe is filter in your fuel source filler tank, not in the bird itself. I use a Jersey Modeller fuel can that has a filter in the tank and a filter in the fill line. It is best so not as to have a point of failure in the fuel lines to the engine.

Hi Lou,
thank you for the input. I will be removing the fuel filter on my AP ship also as I thought this could cause problems.
12 hours of work and this thing should be ready:YeaBaby:

Lou why would you say no filter? Absolutely put one in and put it IN the tank, use a Walbro 615-912 felt clunk and not only will it filter your fuel it will also absorb fuel from fuel splash and you will avoid any engine cutouts and comebacks as it eliminates sucking in bubbles.
My 2 cents worth and I'm totally sold by it.

We do not suggest using an inline fuel filter as they can allow air into the system, using a felt clunk is fine as long as it does not restrict fuel pickup.
Since we do not use exhaust pressure to push the fuel like a nitro, then if you filter the fuel BEFORE you put it in the aircraft, it should be good.

Capt...That clunk should work fine...I have had the exact one in both of the tanks on my turbine for almost 3 years now and never had an issue with fuel flow...and the turbine sucks up the fuel a whole heck of a lot faster than the G26 :D

Yes this is the right clunk. It does really well with picking up the gas and does not retrict the fuel flow like the ceramic clunk can, which can also be found on that website. I used to have the ceramic clunks but had issues with them with fuel flow in cold weather, when I went to this one all my problems were solved.
I would recommend a filtered clunk over none as even though you filter the fuel before you put it in the tank over time some dirt seems to find its way into your tank either though the nipple that you are inserting into the fuel line or by some other means. My fuel can does have a filter pickup in it but also when I opened my tank to change the clunk there was a couple of specs of dirt in there too. They won't hurt anything in the tank but without a filter they will be in your carb final filter screen.

Thank you for all the great info you guys. It's hard being the new guy and the learning curve on these machines is humbling to say the least.

Raja and Greg,
I also have that same clunk in both tanks in my turbine, but not my gasser based on Chris' recommendation and posts that I have seen on the other site about the potential for air bubbles.
On the turbines we have a BMV air trap to make sure we don't get air to the pump or turbine so we are pretty safe there.
The Jersey Modeller fuel can has two filters, one in the bottom of the can and one on the output line. I have been flying over a year with it and have not had a problem. Before I used the can, I did get some real small lint into the carb fine mesh that had to be cleaned.
So I guess you can do it both ways. The most important part is to make sure only clean fuel gets to the carb.
